Project: Syclone 0066

Well I recently found out I will be expecting my first child with my wife, which got me thinking time to sell the motorcycle. Some of you might have seen my wanted add earlier this week about wanting a syclone.. Well I ended up getting a quick sale on my Harley. Time to think safe!!! I had actually many replies about possible trucks for sale, threw here and Facebook. I was actually torn between a Sonoma gt and a syclone.. Both needed work which was what I'm looking for, but distance between both of them was a problem. One was 19hours away, other was 6.5 hours.. I ended up making the 6.5 drive last night to Michigan and brought home my first syclone, another fun road trip with Craig jones! Trip went extremely smooth! Anyways.. Syclone 0066, she needs some attention, motor dies occasionally at idle, rough idle, rear brake line is closed off from leaks, body needs some major attention. I have some bodypanels I will be putting on later. My goal is to get this truck running top notch and enjoy it for a bit, then get to the outside. I started tonight with pulling the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, also started a compression check. So far so good, 1/3/5 all came out around 133/135psi. I'll finish that tomorow.. Anyways here's the pics so far.

Tucked away in the garage with her sisters!

This was an ohio truck wasn't it? I saw this at Randolph last year, and Ian bought it.

Correct.. I was very cautious at first, I wanted to know why Ian got out of it so quick. I wasn't sure motor was bad or something. The bed has also been swapped to a clean bed since Ian owned it

Re: Project: Syclone 0066

I talked to the guy that Ian bought it from. Guy picked it up dirt cheap, I sold him some parts, he got it running better. He didn't keep it long. I probably posted pics at some point either here or Facebook when I first saw it at Randolph

I've seen a few new parts looking around. Fuel injectors aren't originals, distributor looked recently new.. You come across them again let me know! Thanks

Re: Project: Syclone 0066

Finished the Ignition part of the tune up today along with the compression check.
All cylinders were between 133-137psi so that's a plus. Plugs didn't look to bad but I'm sure the new plugs I installed didn't hurt. I got a chance to fire it up before attending Easter dinner, started so much smoother and idle was much better. I plan on checking vacuum leaks tonight, also hope to get the temp gauge working,

Re: Project: Syclone 0066

Well I'm chasing a idle miss. Seems someone else also did the same thing with all the replaced parts. After the tune up it ran much smoother, but once you give it a rev, and the idle comes back down its a bit rough and then finally calms down. I found no vacuum leaks, checked the computer and it's a replacement acdelco with stock chip. I checked timing and it was off 4 degrees so I got that back at Zero and that did wonders with the way it ran. I plan on checking fuel pressure today and also replacing the coil. Had a bit spare time also changed the door pins on drivers side to stop the sag. Slowly but surely!!

Nice looking Syclone.

Whats going on with the white Ty these days?

My white ty is getting a full motor build.. Waiting for the block to get done at machine shop, but it's getting full works.. All forged, bored, Holley hp, e85 fuel system, atr headers, bigger turbo, yada yada.. Just waiting for them to finish the motor and I should have it running in a weekend.

Re: Project: Syclone 0066

Well, changed the coil tonight, in fact it was the original.. Amazing what difference that made. Motor purs like a kitten now, no rough idle and quick throttle response.
I then started on the rear brakes.. The rear brake line was capped at the abs box. Seemed I fixed one line, another popped. So I'll be replacing the entire brake line system for the rear tomorow, once that's done, get the rear lights working, and I should be able to take it for some drives!!

Re: Project: Syclone 0066

Well been hard at this truck.. Finally got all the brakes fixed and working, still throwing a brake light and ABS light. Also switched out the motor on drivers side window, old was not working. Also the lock cylinder seemed weak and wouldn't actually lock the door so I lubed all the contact points for the rods and after a couple cycles that's now fixed.
I also decided to change the transmission fluid yesterday, the fluid was brown but did not smell burnt, I was hoping I could change the fluid and filter and get by this season but that's not going to happen. I went for a short drive this evening.. Normal driving the truck shifts fine.. But once boost comes in, yea.. Lots of slip.. I attempted a small boost launch and the truck barely moved.. So lucky me, I'll be pulling this transmission out Saturday and switching with a spare I received when I bought this truck.

Re: Project: Syclone 0066

Well started the dissemble on pulling the transmission out, I had my wife go pick me up a transmission jack.: holy crap, I will never pull another trans without one. This is atleast the 5th time I've pulled a syty trans and I've always done it on my back using a jack and my muscles.. This transmission jack made the job a breeze!! This is the old trans and the fluid with maybe 5 miles on it.

I have a spare trans which I hope is good. I replaced the pan gasket, filter, and tv cable on it. Also cleaned it up a bit. I should be getting that installed tonight.

Re: Project: Syclone 0066

What a week, between fighting the trans and blowing brake lines, she's finally road worthy.. Took her for a good 20 mile drive, got some fresh gas and she's feeling strong. Still fighting a miss, might replace ignition module next. I could possibly have a bad plug wire out of the box to though happened before.. But I plan on daily driving this truck to work for the week and see if there's any more gremlins to find. Then maybe just maybe Saturday... If she's good, she will get a much needed detail.
