*Now available to buy for $2500, see page 3*

Well since I cant afford a ty anymore, heres the new project. I have been daily driving a 99 stepside S10 but the standard cab is too small for a pregnant girlfriend and Im going to need a backseat. I looked at newer blazers with no luck of finding one cheap, I wanted to stay under $3k because thats what I think I can sell my 99 for. So heres what I came up with.

87 S10 blazer, 2wd 2 door
Fresh rebuilt 350 with a 700R4
Hedmann headers, dual flows
Edelbrock 750 carb and aluminum intake
Lunati hydraulic Cam
Corvette radiator in the core support and clutch fan
Was an AC truck but is missing everything but the evaporator housing and wiring.

It has a solid body other than a few minor spots(bubbles), brand new brakes front and rear, all new shocks, new tires on nice rims

Drove 1.5 hours home with no problems. Drove it another hour since then in 20 degree weather with no problems.

Initial cost $1850

She looks nice! Does that say 2.8 litre on the front? If so good , leave it there!! Ive had many many nice little outings with my V8 S-Jimmy, its lotsa fun. I built mine, so I know whats what, and I know the reliability of it. I have ran into a few minor heat problems, but never overheated. I hope everything works out well for you with your "new" truck.

Re: Project Daily Driver - V8 blazer

Like I said Im keeping it cheap and trying to stay under $3k when its all done. It has to be able to haul a kid, have ac, get good mileage, and be fun for me to drive. It will also haul a trailer on occassion if I need to move my toolbox, move into a house, haul a bike or quad, etc. Maybe a car hauler once in a while.

Some parts I already have left over from the ty or just laying around but Im still going to keep track of cost.

Parts list so far:

TPI setup with ECM - $Free
Serp belt setup - $Free
A/C parts - $Free
Typhoon seats - $Free
PLX wideband O2 - $Free
New unmolested core support - $Free
ZQ8 rear diff - $Free
Autometer phantom tach and shift light - $Free

Custom TPI wiring harness - $192.50 shipped from ebay (chevythunder.com)
Walbro in tank fuel pump - $103.99 shipped from ebay

Parts left to find:

E-Fan
Center console and floor shifter
Tilt column (a friend back home has one for me, just waiting to hear back)
Complete charcoal colored interior(including new carper and headliner)
Radio(this one works intermittantly)
Fuel line and fittings for the TPI
ZQ8 steering box
Door weatherstripping

Re: Project Daily Driver - V8 blazer

i think there is three more parts you need to add to you parts needed list

2" drop spindles
1" drop coils
4" drop leafs

you can't say a dropped truck doesn't work in the snow, i drove my 2wd 93 blaz w/ a 5/6 drop even in 12 inches of snow.

very sharp truck though, specially for the year. i'm kinda jealous now, i traded my 2wd shell for a tool box.

On my other 87 I have belltech 2" spindles, 1" coils, and 4" blocks. It looks sweet but I havent driven it yet with them. Im concerned about the ride. I dont want to give my newborn brain damage if its bouncy. lol. I could swap out parts since its taking my brother forever to finish it. I gave it to him to finish as a drag truck since I was wrapped up in the ty and didnt have the time or money. Everything on it is mine, but the engine and trans are his.

Re: Project Daily Driver - V8 blazer

shorten your bump stops and good shocks and the ride should be good. or just a 2/3

Re: Project Daily Driver - V8 blazer

Went back to illinois over the weekend and did some searching through the garage. Pulled out the TPI setup, my PLX wideband setup from the ty, some brand new bigger injectors that I probably wont use yet, some autometer phantom gauges and tach, a pioneer head unit, and some fittings and fuel line and such. We even had a brand new TPI gasket kit laying around. In the mail I recieved my new Walbro fuel pump, my taurus electric fan, and my new custom wiring harness. Im going to get started on the TPI swap today.

I also found in the garage but couldnt fit in the truck to bring back down to indiana:
Serp belt kit
AC setup
gray dash
a couple miscellaneous gray colored interior pieces
cruise control

Stole from my other truck:
Tilt column with a nice grant steering wheel, replaced it with a non tilt wheel since its going to be mostly a drag truck anyways

I'll have some camera phone pics up in a little bit.

By the way, I also found some syty oil lines. A feed for the turbo and a couple for the remote oil filter.

Also a syty rear driveshaft

If anyone needs these parts let me know. They're in illinois so I cant get them to you right away but we can work something out.

Re: Project Daily Driver - V8 blazer

Went out today, pulled off the carb and intake. Cleaned up and painted the TPI. I dont like the color but autozone didnt have many choices. When I went to put on the TPI lower I discovered that the middle bolts dont line up. I had completely forgotten about the head change in 86 or 87 whenever it was. No big deal I'll just drill the intake right? Wrong, I grabbed for my drill and it was dead. I left the charger at my last job in illinois so I cant charge it. I also have no air compressor in this garage so it killed my plans for today. :(

I'll get a new charger for the drill tomorrow and be back at it

Re: Project Daily Driver - V8 blazer

The new walbro fuel pump is in. The mechanical pump has been removed and blocked off. I finished modding the lower intake for the pre 87 heads. My craftsman cordless drill is junk and the batteries wouldnt hold a charge so that was the worst part so far. The intake is on, distributor is back in, the runners and upper plenum are on.

I cant say I like my color choice for the runners and plenum but autozone doesnt have many choices in spray paint. I'll have it powdercoated down the road when I have more time and money.

I really thought about a 4x4 with an awd tcase, but for the sake of gas mileage and price I decided awd isnt worth it considering theres only a few times a year I really would need it. It would be fun to launch if I were building it big but this thing wont have the power to need it.

I bought it with the radiator already in there but it looks the same as my other blazer which I think is an 86. Its the one JTR says to use.
