price of after market front discs

I called percision brake and they gave me a price of $1899.00 for a new front set up with wilwood calipers for my Sy. I am still using the factory rim, these guys (percision brake) said their stuff would fit. I don't really want vette or camaro brakes if I can get something lighter. Their price seems a little high. Any other setups that are cheaper?

Thanks,

Mike,
I dont think the LS1 brakes would be any heavier than any aftermarket brake setup. Im pretty sure they all use aluminum calipers(LS1 setup does). And the rotor is most likely going to be the same weight for the same diameter rotor.

In my opinion, having more weight in the rotor isn't necessarily a bad thing. It will increase the rotational inertia, but it probably also adds more metal in the "fire path", which will help with fade resistance.

And personally, $1900 is alot of money to spend on front brakes. And how much better will it stop? I feel that if you had 17" rims and could got to 12.6" or 13" rotors with C5 calipers you'd have much better brake performance. But thats not a bolt-on kit, just yet, and you've got 16" wheels, which will be a limiting factor.

Just my thoughts...

Damn, those are nice products, but the price is

http://www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com/ has nice high quality kits front and rear for Syclone. If there was enough interest here I *MIGHT* be able to talk my friend who is the QC Manager there into possibly giving our site a group discount. (I could also do this in conjunction with my site, s-seriesforum.com to get more interest). I have been in a few cars equipped with these brakes and I have been very impressed by the stopping power (and holding power for those boost launches ;) ) of these brakes. They don't fade or pull, very nice even brake pressure (I experienced them in a car, I do NOT have a set of these on my Syclone YET, probably over the winter with my year end bonus $$$). Anyways, here are the kits and part #'s for a Syclone with factory 16" rims (they also offer "Big Brake" kits for larger rims/rotors, etc., but not Sy/Ty specific)

FRONT:

A2351017 Turbo slotted rotors and high performance pads. $215.00

A181 Direct bolt-on Force 10 SportTwin 2-piston aluminum calipers and high performance pads. $395.00

REAR:

A117 Rear drum to disc brake conversion kit. Includes single-piston cast iron caliper with built-in parking brake. $740.00

I have mentioned the possibility of a GP in another thread, but only 1 person PM'd me about it, hardly enough interest to even consider a group buy, but if we can get it together I would be willing to pitch it to my friend and see what he can do. Oh well, good luck with your brake quest.

I am sitting in Mexico right now for my day job, but when I return I will be finishing up the parts to make the ls1 and c5 brakes as close to bolt in as possible. The material showed up a couple days before I left.

It is coming.
