Power increases

I just got some performance mods for my syclone and was wondering if anyne could tell me what I might expect to run in he quarter. I got a set of vortec heads done ported and polished with a 5 angle valve job (205/160 valves). A comp cams 500/510 lift cam, comp cams 1.5 full roller rockers, a ported and poished intake, New msd distributor. Other mods to the truck include underdrive pully's, Kenne Bell chip, Kenne Bell ignition and Injectors, fuel pump upgrade, torque converter lockup switch, and lower intercooler upgrade. What should I expect to run with these mods.

Re: Power increases

It depends on the tune.

Bad tune: 15 seconds (if it doesn't hand grenade at half-track)

Good tune: mid 12's

Great tune: 11's (if the tranny stays in one piece)

It's really a loaded question. Look at my mods below in my sig. My truck really isn't that impressive. Bad tune...

It seems like your using the stock turbo. Get rid of the Kaboom Chip and underdrive pulleys, they will only cause head ache's. It should run in the 12's, how fast depends on tuning...

Highliged above is/will be the source of your next premature engine rebuild.

Serioulsy though, take that chip out before it detonates your motor.

So the chip sucks huh? What chip do you recommened. The truck has gone 12:70 without the new heads, intake, cam or distributor.

Re: Power increases

Honestly the SyTys tend to work best if you follow the community's time honored recipies for parts combinations. If you don't follow those, you're totally on your own and bound to run into annoying problems, such as problems people dont have solutions for, or combinations that don't run right and have poor performance, and nobody has a chip ready on the shelf for it.

There's a post somewhere on here about SyTy Combinations in MS Excel format that's a good guide. For someone with the heads and cam, they would typically be a very advanced SyTy enthusiast with a few years of experience learning the nuances of tuning one of these trucks and keeping it in top running condition. They would have a PTE 50-series turbo or larger, Delphi/PTE-brand (I think?) 50# injectors specifically (not all 50# injectors are the same), and then the "Ultimate Chip for Vortec Heads/Cam and 50# Injectors" could be used and expected to provide a good baseline tune for you to start from.

An extremely stout tranny with a 2600-3000+ stall would also be necessary at these levels. If this is all foreign to you, you may be pretty new and I'd suggest spending a lot of time learning and reading and researching, and talking to members on here, before you make your next purchase or steps. These trucks are very challenging to get performance out of, and that's if you follow the "easy, well-known route"!!

Depending on the quality of the tune, and the boost being run (this will be your biggest factor), the truck could run anywhere from 14 seconds to solid 10 seconds. You'll likely find yourself start in the middle somewhere and have the potential to bring it down as you dial it in according to your skill level (or bank account).

Good luck,

Most people don't go the route of Heads/Cam (IMO the intake/ditributor won't make much of difference) on stock turbo. It will probably be faster than what you ran before, the good new is even though the Ken Belle chip disable the Knock Retard (bad idea), Vortec Heads usually are much more knock restitant, so it will atleast give you a litte bit of a margin of error. I really don't know what to recommend for a chip, since its not a setup most use on stock turbo and you may need different injectors (especailly if they are KB 40#)

Re: Power increases

Need tuning with a 3bar chip if you plan on running some real boost.

I would upgrade your turbo before you tune, to save you time and money. The stock 4.3 outflows the turbo, and now that you have increased the breathing of your motor, the turbo is an even bigger bottleneck.

You'll need a fuel pump and regulator. The KB injectors are crap, get some 50s. You'll want a downpipe to go with that turbo as well and a good wastegate for controlling boost.

Re: Power increases

Boost gauge might help too if you are upgrading the turbo. High flow IC pump along with the hotwire will help get the most out of your lower IC upgrade.

Re: Power increases

Stock turbo for right now but I am going to upgrade the turbo and converter. Along with the intercooler.
