Re: Possible GP crossmembers
Alright I have some more news for everyone.
Mike is thinking of using DOM tubing and powdercoating instead of Chromoly, cost vs weight it doesnt seem smart enough to spend the extra money for such a little gain.
I talked with Mike about making sure the driveshaft loop would not hit the driveshaft when the vehicle is put into the air, he said they could do an oval loop for the extra clearance.
Sorry I had no way of weighing the old crossmember when I removed it and its already been sent to the scrap yard.
I do plan on making a new rear crossmember some day so I can mount my fuel cell under the bed but as of right now I have no plan to do it anytime soon. Maybe Mike would like to?
Loeryder
THe flat piece of metal on the Dustan is my phil chiver driveshaft loop. I sent it to Dustan and he welded it on for me, can't use the loop though as it would hit the driveshaft when I put the truck up on the hoist. Making sure Mike's won't do this.
I know the RPM pic is a little hard to see but gives an idea on what it would look like.
The gas tank is on the left. Basically the one in that pic is a driveshaft loop, that truck still has the torsion bars and the crossmember we are replacing.
The one Mike will be making for us will be in the spot of the old crossmember and be a driveshaft loop plus crossmember.
The crossmember being elimintated here is the one the torsion bars run through.
So Loeryder not the trans crossmember but the other one is the one you would be removing to put this one in its place.
Hopefully that clears some things up for everyone and we can get the ball rolling on this soon!
Just need 2 more people and to make sure the people on the list are for sure confirmed.
