I just got this notice:
"The following parts are temporarily out of stock. Your
order will be held until it can be shipped complete.

The estimated ship date for your order is: 08/03/2006"

Summit next day delivery has me spoiled.

I placed my order @ 12:07 pm on the 26th.
Cary, the guy that works the parts @ SDPC can be a little overwhelmed at times. Maybe he forgot to input your order.;)

To the moon. The intent behind your question is a little vague, I get the feeling that unless someone say 7k RPM you'll tell them they don't *NEED* the Pontiac heads. Not trying to start a flame war on the pros/cons of things, just want to know what your *REAL* question is here.

Sorry I didn't mean to make it sound deliberately vague. I had to chuckle when I read what you said because you must know me and my tendency to stretch parts as far as they go. :)

But that actually wasn't what I was getting at -- I'm just trying to get a feel for what RPM guys feel shaft mounts are worthwhile, as well as a general feel for what kind of powerband guys have in mind with the Pontiac heads.

In general with SBC rockers, you can get away with typically rocker roller for a few hundred rpm over over 6000 rpm before you need to start focusing on high rpm stability and/or more expensive solutions.

It's not that people want to go with an $850 set of shaft mount rockers, it's more like you *HAVE* to. The way the ports are set up, it requires you to use an offset rocker to get the geometry right. Believe me, if someone said you could use a set of off the shelf Crane rockers on a set of Pontaic heads, I'm damn sure Jesel's phone wouldn't be ringing.

For me, I just got a good deal on them from eBay. Not that I plan on ever running a 1K HP truck, but...

a) They're aluminum. Less weight overall.
b) Aluminum heads are less prone to detonation.
c) You have more room to grow in the future with a set of Pontiacs than Vortecs.

The down side is all the expense associated with it. You, and others, have proven that you don't need these parts to go fast and that tuning plays one of the most important parts in getting a low ET, but if you want to go all out, I don't think you can beat these heads.

Re: Pontiac Heads # 10045449

i believe that peter has put it in the correct perspective. on the other hand i will be shooting for 1k hp. and i think that these are the best heads for that purpose. i also got what i feel is a heck of a deal on the pontiacs off ebay. 450.00 shipped. yes they will require some $$$$ to make them work but when you are trying to make 1000 hp it all costs a lot of $$$$. but this project will be way later down the road for me. i just got my new vortec engine put in the sy last night... so i have a long way to go before i have a 1k hp typhoon. but that is my goal eventually.

Wow, I appreciate your responses! That definitely sheds some light on the subject. Now that you mention it, I think I remember reading the shaft mount requirement for the Pontiacs in the GM Performance parts catalog. Thanks again,

Who's Matt?

I told you Cary was overloaded. I've had several instances where things were to be drop-shipped & the order just plain got dropped/forgotten about.
