debating on which wideband to get. i kind of like the idea of egt as well as afr.....ive pretty much narrowed it down the these 2. the zeitronix is a little cheaper and has some nice failsafes such as cutting back wastegate pressure if it detects a problem in afr.....i like the plx r500 because it has a knock indicator.....what do you guys think

Re: plx or zeitronix

Ive said this before in numerous other posts, but here it is again.

I have a Zeitronix WB and it works great. I like the idea of using it with my laptop, its hard enogh to try to read a large screen and drive no less a small digital display. I have been using it for at least a year now and not one single problem has come up with the unit or sensor. It has been run for months every day on my Typhoon running closed loop $59.

Now for my trouble. It outputs voltage that is read in a chart by Tunerpro RT, and correlated to an actual AFR, that TP-RT is running closed loop with. EVERY time I open TP-RT, and do some logging, changing or whatever, my AFR's read different- Zeitronix software vs TP RT. Its usually minor, like less than 1 AFR, but it always happens. When I first installed it, I checked its output voltage with a DVM and it was steady and fine. I really havent spent much time at all trying to figure out why its doing this, but it is. Is it the WB? Is it the wiring? Ground? I dont really know, but I know it isnt right. Trying to tune for lean AFR's at cruise makes this problem bothersome. One day my closed loop cruise AFR will be 16:1 in TP and Z software, then the next it will be 16:1 in TP and 16.6 in Z software.

Other than that, Ive used it on a few carb'd cars with a tach input and a MAP sensor and it logs great by itself.

Re: plx or zeitronix

well ive been pricing around the plx unit and it seems to go for 550-600 with the egt sensor........now the question is do i really need all this? i mean i would definitly want a wideband guage, but is it really needed to have the egt and knock sensor built into one? i will be using tunerpro as my datalogger so i really dont need the software. i can get the plx sm afr with the guage for around 275....so should i save the extra 300 and use it elsewhere?

Re: plx or zeitronix

I have never used an EGT. They are available for kart racing, never used one there either. Any data you can collect and learn to interpret is valuable, but I wouldnt say its "needed".

PLX - 300. I like the display that stands out right in front of me on the steering column... But that is just me!
