PLX DM-5/SM-AFR interfacing with the ecm

Re: PLX DM-5/SM-AFR interfacing with the ecm

Taske a flashlight and look up into the space, it will help you understand how it fits much better. There is a designated area for the top of it to keep it stable, it must fit up into that provision. Just take a look, you will see what I mean. (obviously the gold colored bracket will be the bottom)

Hey Loe,
This is how I did mine.... any auto parts store sells a "Buss" brand item called 'tap-a-fuse', or some name like that. Pull the ignition fuse out, stick this part in it's place, and it gives you a fused output with a wire already attached with a crimp bullet connector. The factory fuse plugs back into this part.

There is a second fuse slot, that you put the fuse of your choice into (up to 10 amps I think).

Yeah that is how I have my alky kit hooked up now, but I am looking for something more stout.

30-40A main that breaks out into 4 or 5 feeds, alky, WB, EBC, inverter, disco ball... you know the drill.
All of those should be key switched.

Looking for a way to distribute that much current without 5 feeds ran to the batt or alt and 5 switches or 5 relays turning it all on and off with the key..

Wow, I didn't know you were looking for that much current capacity... these might work really well for you, although they'd have to be mounted in the cab (they're not made for wet use). I use them on my workbench fed off a regulated power supply for my RC airplane work.

Here's the website..... http://www.westmountainradio.com/Image/RIGrunner.jpg

And here is what they look like - anything from 40, up to 80, amps on one or two busses. You'd just run one master power cable to the battery, then feed off of these.

Oh, and to make it switched, just run the main feed to the battery through a single, high-current relay (controlled by ignition) and you have master control over the whole panel :)

Re: PLX DM-5/SM-AFR interfacing with the ecm

Just incase anyone needs the terminals...
I just scored a good friend with access to GM parts... actually an old friend. Anyway a Sack of 10 terminals run $7.80 so don't let them charge you $9 for three like the local Stealership did to me.
Part #12089649 - $.78 ea. in Sack of 10

Did you all just replace the stock O2 sensor with the wideband? All of PLX's docs say to mount it atleast 24" from the turbo. Our stock sensor is about 4" from the turbo. Thoughts? I'm planning on using the stock location but thought I would ask.

I think everyone is using it in the stock location or similar distance. I've never seen any sytyers with the o2 2 feet away from the turbo... it would put the O2 down near th frame.

I called Detroit Turbo when I mounted mine cuz I saw the same warning. They said... "If you are running a somewhat stock motor (stock internals), it's OK to mount it in the factory location - if you run a cam, big injectors, high rpm internals, etc. then you need to mount it further away"....

I've had mine in the stock location now for a number of months and all seems OK.

Re: PLX DM-5/SM-AFR interfacing with the ecm

i have extra terminal connectors with ~16" wires. if anyone is in need of a couple to interface the wideband to the ecm, let me know.

Digging up an old post here, But i just got back from napa yesterday. The had the box of 50 teminals and the first guy i spoke too over the phone said you MUST buy all 50. I ran down there and the guy behind the counter opened up the box and charged 99 cents per and gave me 10.
If they tell you to buy a full box call shananegains.

Another quick question reguarding install, Do i have to yank the stock O2 sensor wires out of the ECM or anything like that? And if so where the hell do they enter the firewall?
Im gona mount both the modules and perhapse the ECM in the glovebox.

After some searching i guess i only need to push one wire out of the ECM connector. Purple wire. Im just gona leave the stock o2 ground in and zip tie the stock sensor up in the engine bay for reconection if i even wanna stock the truck back out and sell it

I also would like to know if we are supposed to pull the stock 02 sensor wires out of the ecm in order to use the wideband as a replacement 02?

Re: PLX DM-5/SM-AFR interfacing with the ecm

Whn putting capacitors between the NB signal and ground and the WB signal and ground which ground is it? Is it the ground that comes from that same connector the O2 signals are coming from?

I wanna vault, but i think it would lock out from further posts and it seems this thread keeps getting added info to it!
