Pillar Pod Questions - gauge size, mech./elect. etc.

I'm just about ready to order a pillar pod for my Sy but I'm somewhat concerned about the gauges being intrusive and blocking visibility. After looking at the picture below, I think I should just go with a 2 5/8" 2-pod with FP and boost and skip the trans. temp because that top pod looks like it's right in the driver's line of sight. I've never been in a SyTy with the pillar gauges so I'm only speculating here. Can someone who has the full-pod gauges comment on them? Also, should I get a mechanical or electrical FP gauge. Do I need a remote sending unit? I really want to get this right the first time. Thanks.

I have the full pillar pod on my Ty which takes the 2 1/16th gauges. I don't see any problem with visibility. Only difference between the 3 pod and 2 pod is roughly a 2.5 inch bulge at the top of the pillar for the 3rd hole.

I'd go for an elec FP gauge. If you are going the autometer route, the full sweep gauges are nice but pricey. I just settled on the half-sweep for about half the price of the full-sweep. If you go with the elec FP gauge it comes with everything you need except adapter to connect fuel rail to sender. Check out http://www.summitracing.com or http://www.jegs.com

Can someone take a picture of their full-pod from the driver's view facing forward? I'll probably go with the Autometer full-sweep gauges if I do the 2-pod. BTW, should I go with the Autometer or Lotek pillar? The prices are about the same.

Hey I have the 2 guage 2 1/16 setup..... i like it....

first of all i would suggest the 2 1/16 size cause it will save you money and the pow looks better for them..... not so crowded looking

i have an efpg and mech. boost guage in mine.... i can see perfect and the guages are easy to read

another thing is if you are going with autometer i would suggest the phantom guages.... cheaper than the autolites and don't have those tacky silver rings around em... they're black

OK, here's what I've decided on:

-Autometer Sport Comp. 2 1/16" full sweep electric FP and mechanical boost gauges
-2-gauge 2 1/16" pillar pod
-Fuel sender relocating kit

I chose black gauges since they match the factory gauges and the silver ring looks nice on the Sport Comp's. Thanks for the input bros :wink:

I say F the in cab FP gauge. Other than the occational glance, it really doesnt go anywhere, For the price, its totally not worth it. I have a digital FP gauge and it is gonna be pulled out and sold soon to be replaced with something else. I think an underhood or custom hood mount mechanical gauge is a way better choice, but thats just my opinion.

I got the Lotek 2-pod 2 1/16" with Autometer carbon fiber full-sweep gauges. The FP gauge alone was $210 from Jeg's!!! My truck is running VERY strong now and having accurate boost and FP readings is important so I don't think it's a waste. I've just about got my truck dialed in perfectly now so I'll be doing the external wastegate, ultimate chip, and Aquamist real soon.

I just got my 2 pod Lotek and Sport Comp boost gauge put in. Very nice.

Kenne Bell also makes a four guage/four rocker switch setup which mounts where the cupholders are on the console. The only drawback I have had with my pillar pod is that I think its scared a few people off at the lights. I don't look at my guages at all anyways. I watch the DataMaster.

I know its not mounted, but thats about what you'd be looking at. Its not really much wider than the stock post.

Thanks for the pics guys. I think I'm going to be very happy with what I ordered. I chose the carbon fiber gauges over the ultra-lites because they have a dark face which , IMHO, matches better with the factory gauges; besides, carbon fiber is cool, he he. I also liked the yellow and white numbering and chrome ring on the carbon fiber's. Otherwise, I would have gone with the sport comp gauges. Here's a pic of an AutoMeter carbon fiber gauge:

I also used the stock trim screws instead of the shiny steel (or whatever they are) ones that came with the Lotek. The Lotek's holes aren't countersunk like stock, but the darker screws don't stand out much at all...

Do any of you know where I can see some pics of a Kenne Bell guage pod for the cup holders? I was just thinking the other day that someone should make one and it really got my attention when ALBERTAN said that Kenne Bell makes one.

The Lo-Tek pillar pods have been improved a while back and now come with countersunk holes and painted trim screws and even have some nice flush plastic caps for the screws to match the color for a real finished look. Look under the Lightning pillar pod section of our site for the updated info. We'll have to update this info on the Sy/Ty pillar pods section also.
