Yup. If you guys want I can take some pics this weekend of it. I noticed this when I had the inner fender out.

I'd like some pics of it....Also, could you check to see if they've loosened after this time you've been driving it? If I can find a hard enough allen bolt, I'll be going this route for sure....A bolt that's at least as hard as my exhaust manifold bolts (grade 8?) would give me enough peace of mind as long as they don't start backing themselves out anytime I drive the truck.....

I PMed Mark, who owned the truck and did this to it. He should come in and answer the question about which bolts he used and whatnot. And I'll take a pic of them this weekend. I dont feel like messing with ripping out the inner fender well in the middle of the weeek, so I'll save it till I have some time to do it. ;) But I will post the pics asap when I get to it.

PB Blaster would have helped IMO. Always a good idea to soak them first anyway.

Re: Passenger Exhaust manifold turbo studs NOW WITH PICS

I certainly won't doubt Bob's real world experience with bolts vs. studs. I can only explain what worked for me. I replaced the studs with bolts when I went through this same problem with one of my studs breaking off a year or two after I bought the truck and was upgrading to a 20g turbo. I ended up buying a set of carbide drill bits from Snap On and drilling out the stud, then re-tapped it. At that time, I put in hardened allen bolts to hold on the 20g.

When I installed the PTE kit Todd sold me 4-5 years later, the bolts I originally used on the 20g were still tight and I had no problems getting them out. I bought new hardened bolts and put them in. With the PTE kit, the allen bolts made life a lot easier to get in (probably with the stocker as well). From my experience only, I would do it again.

thanks, but don't go out of your way for this...I'm in no hurry, I just like to look at pics of everything....What would really be cool though is a pic of one of the allen bolts (removed) next to a tape measure ;) j/k

When you do put new studs in, don't overtighten them into the flange. I did it to a nice ramhorn SBC manifold back in the day, and when I tightened the stud down too far, the bulge (non-threaded) in the stud went down into the threads like a wedge in a piece of firewood, and broke off the corner of the manifold.

While this is still fresh in my mind, I thought I'd post the thread size for the turbo mount on the passenger exhaust manifold.....it's an M10 x 1.50 (metric).....I'm off to go see what I can find in the way of studs or bolts if they have them.....

Here you go.
They are a little blury as you can tell, not to bad. The upper right bolt (the only one I didnt get pics of because it would of blured the pic out totaly.) has a smaller head on it then the rest. I guessed for easier access between the sections of the turbo and the oil return line

My air compressor of 8 years died on me when I was taking off the wheel to get these pics.

Pissed me off too, It was getting low on pressure and I was wondering why it wasnt kicking on and I looked over, and saw it smoking

I guess I can call that a syty kill huh

Re: Passenger Exhaust manifold turbo studs NOW WITH PICS

Thanks for going through the trouble of this....I was able to locate the correct m10 x 1.50 x 25 allen bolts and installed three allens and left one existing stud in place....the allen bolts I found were 12.9 (grade?) and felt as heavy as lead.....$1.40 for four....I bought all of 14 they had in stock because they were so inexpensive... maybe I could use four for the front of my propshaft....thanks again....

12.9 grade is the strongest grade I believe for metric bolts.. Sorta like grade 8 for SAE bolts.

Thats what you want to use and also make sure that you put some sort of ANTI-Seize on those bolts..

You can see it sorta oooozing out from under the bolt heads in that pic.. When Mark and I put that turbo on Tim's truck we put some 2100*F Nickel Based antiseize.. Be very careful what you use.. If you use the wrong stuff it will turn into JB WELD !!

<<Tim, not sure why you think its(the bolt not pictured) got a smaller head on it.. May just be an optical illusion, they should all 4 be the same bolt..>>
