i highly doubt it...i heated the hell outta that bolt when i welded it...this all the globs of weld. And it still went no where....well not all of the stud anyway :lol:

we all know a torch would have resolved this problem.. renz needs to learn these things.

Yes, I did this and its been installed on the truck that Mark sold to Tim Barrett, you can install Allen socket bolts in there in place of the studs. They are a metric thread so not every place will have them but IMO, its a worthwhile modification. The removal of the bolts make it easier to yank the turbo off with out pulling the DP out of the way (Tims truck has a PTE kit on it, so this is a null issue but for stock turbo/dp trucks this is good move)..

Also, swapping to allen head bolts, makes it easier to remove them in the future with the corresponding socket and an extension on a ratchet

Studs are OK for the factory, they make it a PITA to pull off @ home tho..

I realize yer past this point, but Sears sells this for like $20-25 :

And they make them in different sizes and work very well. I wouldnt recommend using it on anything you plan on re-using (they beat up the threads).. Just giving you information for future issues involving stud removal if the double nut method doesnt work..

You really don't want to use bolts in a cast iron manifold that is mounting a turbo. Buy new hardened studs and do it right.

First would be you will go thru hell trying to keep it tight. The 4 studs are taking a beating holding up the turbo and exhaust while it is moving all over the place and expanding and shrinking. Bolts are not made for this duty. When you put the stud in and tighten it up it now becomes a solid mounting point complete with no threads where it comes in contact with the turbo flange. This now becomes a solid unit with no play in it. If you use bolts the threads are not only undersized for the flange you also have 1/2 the area of strenght due to the threads. Not to mention when you tighten a nut it clamps way better than when you tighten a bolt as there is the added resistance. I can go on but I hate typing.......
