Paging members from Washington State - Tell me about living there :)

Hey all :)

I am currently looking into an opportunity that may take myself and my family out to live in WA in the next couple of years. I was hoping to hear from some Sy Ty folks about life in Washington in general, and in the Tacoma area specifically. Any areas to avoid, or things I as a gearhead need to know before considering life out there? It's not like moving to California is it? ;)

Thanks!

Never personally lived in Tacoma, but have been there many times and known people who lived there. There may be nice areas of Tacoma, but a city doesn't get the rep for being a bad city for no reason. I'm sure all the appearances on "Cops" hasn't helped that stigma either.

Oh also, you better really enjoy rain :)

LOL, I come from South Florida, so neither some rain nor a few bad areas bother me. ;)

Besides, to paraphrase the great Groucho Marx, I don't know that I would want to live in an area that would be excited about having us :D

Any specific spots in that vicinity to avoid like the plague?

If you move to Tacoma, you will smell the Tacoma Aroma. Older paper mills and cow poop. Check a website titled city-data.com There is a ton of info on specific cities and pocket areas.

Hope this helps.

Lived 25 years there, all my family still lives there.

Tacoma Aroma was removed over 10 years ago, paper mills created that and they are all gone.

Lemay Auto Museum just opened up downtown, they have spent a lot of money in recent years improving downtown. Not perfect but it is showing. You probably don't want to live downtown anyways.

Tacoma limits is a HUGE area, what area is this job in might narrow down where to live. You looking to rent/buy a house and budget would help also.

If money was no object i would live west of the narrows bridge, of course you will have to commute to work but that area is very nice (and priced accordingly).

If you get to moving for sure I am sure my brothers would be willing to help you out show you the areas to avoid, etc.

It doesn't rain as much as some thing, but thats because its a drizzle that lasts all day vs a 1hr rain shower. I loved it and if it wasn't for other reasons I would still live there.

420 = legal.

All the dispenseries have been shut down on this side of the state.
My understanding is that if you can get the medical waiver, you best be growin your own in the small quantities they allow... and not get busted by the feds... 'cause it aint legal in their eyes.

Oh, and WA is a pretty good place to live.

I never lived there but went out to visit my uncle last year. He lives in University Place which I thought was real nice. Only guy on the block with a palm tree in his yard:lol: Tacoma IMO, is gorgeous for the most part, of course there are some shit holes around there but where are there not? Seattle is about 40 minutes away and another gorgeous city. Kind of small but nice. Only thing I didn't care for on my trip out there was that there were no real spectacular places to eat unless you're in to sea food which I am not. I was there for 5 days and it rained about half the time I was there.

Not particular about the area. 99% of it is remote work, so I could live within an hour or two of Tacoma and be fine. Looking to purchase, something under 200K. A basement is important so I have a work area, and some land would be nice. I don't mind living a bit further off the beaten path to get those things. Would actually prefer it, kind of tired of living in my neighbor's lap.

This side of the state being the east side? Were they shut down by feds, or state police? Wife and I would both be well served by medical herb, and should qualify easily. As for the feds, they are an issue no matter where you go, but *GENERALLY* they tend to leave smaller shit alone. As long as I'm not trying to replicate some of the Colombian growing fields, I should be ok. ;)

If you want off the beaten path and with 200k or less house with land that ensures that as requirement I would look into Yelm, Eatonville, Graham, places like that. Away from the main part of town yet close enough you can drive in when needed.

If you have herb questions I suspect my brother could help there also being he does have a prescription (which they are VERY easy to get). The store fronts are all over the west side last I heard, be there in late July and I can report back.
