BTW J, Why dont you mock up a metal bracket for the rear view mirror somehow off of that bracket that holds the console. That way its not mounted on the windshield. Just an idea.

Do you need to install the front tab? I noticed that there is already a hole in the forward cab panel that might work for mounting the front. What about the rear portion? How did you secure that to the roof panel?
The front screw is about 1" further forward than that hole (it is centered right between the rivets) which would put the console out of alignment.
In the rear, I simply took off the old dome light and used some longish screws to go through the light bucket and up to the roof where there were two holes already

And my mirror wouldn't be hanging if I hadn't leaned on it during the install
It's okay, it needed to come off anyway because the windshield is broken

Yeah my windshield if cracked too. Which sucks because its tinted and it'll be a bitch finding someone to retint it.. sigh..

So how would this work with say, a dodge console? I've been searching online for a few different ones, and the one small one shown above kinda looks like that of the one in a 05 Dakota. I've also been thinking about upgrading to a newer rearview mirror..

But heres the pic of the dakota one;

They all seem to be attached in a similar manner

The small one above is from a late model (98 or newer I believe) s10

great job. i just did this 4 weeks ago in my 92 jimmy, and i am very pleased with the results.

one thing that makes me curios though... why the 1/2 - 1 inch gap at the back of the headliner??

the factory sy one goes all the way back, if memory serves me.

Re: Overhead console in a Sy/ GT

I checked out the site and there is no part number for the actual trim. Just for the bracket. I really need one of these since I have a sun roof. I could use the 3 buttons in the center to control the sun roof and do away with the crappy setup I have now.
Do you have the part number for the actual console (not just the bracket).
Do they both come in that same part number?

Because the headliner came out of the Bravada that donated it's console, and the trimming came just a hair shorter than I wanted

When you get your windshield replace make sure you watch them do it. Seem to me that someone here had a low mileage Typhoon (I think in Colo.) that 1/2 of the vin tag was remove during a windshield replacement. Talk about screwing up someone truck. I don't recall what happen or if it ever got fix.

Did you make everything functional?

What I ment by asking how they would attach is if I use a console from a Dodge or a Ford or some other car/truck maker other then GM. How would I wire it into the truck, on that link posted above for the small console he says he uses a guy who makes a GM wiring harness. So how would I wire in a Dodge or Ford console?? Or would they all be the same?

I'm looking for plug and play here.. (Cause I hate electrical.. )

Here you go:
1994 bravada console, also the front half of the bravada's headliner (and the second visors that I added as well)

Can you take some pics of how you used the rear screws to attach the back?
