I finally finished my intake manifold. I had it welded for Vortec heads and ended up porting them to match the port work that had previously been done on the heads. I think I did a pretty good job on this thing. The porting could probably stand some perfection but considering this was my first time, I say I did alright. Here are pics I took

What I really really like is the way we used a long piece of aluminum instead of just welding pieces on at the intake ports. I think it gives it a more "stock" appearance. The welding was done beautifully and we had an ever so slight amount of material milled off for a truly flat surface. I had it glass beaded to clean it all up then I went ahead and painted it

That does look nice! I will be doing mine soon. What paint are you using?

BTW Your build pics are great, fun to watch your progress. Can't wait to start putting mine together.

thats a lot of extra material you dont need. keep your ports straight too. looks to me like some of your port are s shaped. it's hard to do and takes a lot of time but you can get there. also you want to fill in the holes in the deck surface by the ports so you get better gasket retention.

you also didnt add any material to the sides or the top of the intake so you wont be able to properly port it to match as you will break thru pretty quickly.

I added the extra "unneeded" material on this intake to better seal the coolant passages and help clamp down the gaskets.
I dont think mike had major porting in mind w this thing, just enough to make the thing work.
Ill be doing major reconstructive surgery to mine in the future, and the ports will be beefed up for heavy porting. thanx for the props mike.

Huh, I guess it sucks then:dunno: Dont worry Mike, your props will get in there once I finish everything. I have a good size list of people to thanks once I am done. Besides, all you did was weld it:lol: Yeah what Critical said is true, I wasn't particularly looking to make this a true major porting deal. I just wanted the holes to match up, which they do. Since Critical (Mike), had the aluminum welding ability and I didn't, I didn't really feel like waiting week on and week off for it. I wanted the extra metal there to make it look nice, one straight shot. The way everyone else does looks just fine but for me, I like that it really does look like it came that way. After painting it the welds don't even show as much as I thought they were going to.

As long as the ports line up & it seals you should be fine.

I am a bit critical because my friend has been porting cylinder heads for more than 25+ years.

I am a novice porter ,but I have been doing it for some time also.

Here is my aftermarket inline Chevy 250 6 cylinder head me & my friend have been working on.

Whats that for? My friend has a 47 Fleet master that he wants to do something with but doesn't want to keep the 216. He doesn't want to go V8 either, wants to be different and was contemplating the 235. I told him I would look for a newer model inline 6 if GM makes one.

.....could use the I6 out of the Trailblazer/Envoy. Nice engine, loves to rev... sucks for towing (at least in my '02 Bravada)... should be able to pick up the engine/tranny for about $2k.

Here is my aftermarket inline Chevy 250 6 cylinder head me & my friend have been working on. It is for my 69 Camaro.

The trailblazer engine is the hot ticket 4 valves per cylinder mild ported head flows 310 cfm @ low lift.
