No offense taken at all since oiling systems are kinda my thing and I enjoy discussing/debating/argueing about them. I know I could prolly find something more exciting to be enthusiastic about but it makes me happy so why not :) .

You make valid points and I trust your judgement. Next time I'm in there I'll change it out. Gold star for you.

Servando....I assume you went with 1/2" NPT when you tapped everything?

Yes, on the oil system I went with only -08 an hose and reusable fittings...Also on the oil system I used -08 to 1/2" straight fittings tapped into the adapter and relocator for connecting the hose....6 taps total on oil system.... Fuel system I went with -10 tank to pump, -08 pump to rail, -06 return....used the blue hose below on everything.....you can get this stuff at your local hydraulic fittings store....

Mine are stainless but If you go with aluminum, you could have someone weld fittings to the oil adapter and relocator...can't use the blue hose though.....that would be cheaper and quicker with aluminum but uglier....

I take it you've got a sumped tank then? Any pics of the project? What are you running for a pump; A100, etc? No more questions :D

Re: Oil filter adaptor FYI.

I have only one pic of the sump I made....I just welded up a triangle box out of x-gauge sheetmetal....traced with soap stone where it was to be welded then used a large drill bit to make numerous ~1/2" holes where the sump goes....then brazed the sump to the tank....you can also buy one but the one from jegs was too large for my sy tank anyway so I just made one....I have to keep my tank pretty full to keep the a1000 from sucking air on startup...the only solution to that would be to mount the pump lower than the sump, but that's a PIA....I used a 13 gallon tank....had to mod the fuel pump sender thing with a larger diameter return and cancelled a couple other lines on it....the hardest part of all was removing the plastic baffle from the 13 gallon tank....took me the majority of a day just to remove the baffle.....the second pic is just a tank and pump mockup before I made the sump....I was just cutting hose to length and installing fittings.....

If i still have abs in my truck will i need 90degree adaptor fittings going into the filter or would 45's do the trick, also there is no threads in the filter adaptors did u guys just tap it and make it 1/2" pipe thread?

Re: Oil filter adaptor FYI.

I drilled mine with a 9/16" bit, and tapped it to 3/8" NPT. 1/2" was a bit overkill; it didn't leave much room left on the walls of the adapter, and I was concerned it would crack during tapping, so I went with 3/8". The ID of 3/8" NPT is pretty much what the ID of the stock solid lines were.

Ted....what's that for a radiator?
i dont know that picture is something waller posted i was just using it for an example. Is the threads on the stock radiator oil cooler 1/2"npt?

Looks like an aftermarket external tranny filter kit to me. That or it could be an oil cooler based on the directiont he lines are going and just using a secondary radiator located cooler as an oil cooler.

Re: Oil filter adaptor FYI.

i found out the stock oil cooler is an inverted flare 1/2" - 20 thread and when searching on summit i can not find that inverted flare to an 8 AN adaptor but they do have adaptors to 6 AN could i just do the whole thing in 6 AN and save some money and have a simple install or should i go for 8 AN and then run some reducers to the 6 AN fitting to the stock oil cooler or better yet anyone know where i could find and 8AN to inverted 1/2"-20 adaptor?

Ted,

I've had the best luck dealing with our local hydraulic supply stores....a good one will stock just about anything you might need...take them your stuff and tell them what you need and they usually come up with a solution on the spot.....hydraulic fittings are overkill for us but who cares?

the fittings you speak of above may be some kind of a power steering fitting....just guessing since I don't really know offhand...

Re: Oil filter adaptor FYI.

Ted....hold on a few. I think you're wrong with the 1/2" - 20 inverted flare for the engine oil cooler on the stock radiator. I'm 99% sure that the trans cooler lines are 1/2" - 20 inverted, but the engine oil cooler lines look like this.....

DSC00526.JPG

This is a 16mm metric fitting from RPM to thread into the fuel rails and adapt it to -AN thread. I think this is the type of fitting you're looking for. Whether it's 14, 16 or 18mm, I don't know.

A side question; do the engine cooler lines require an o-ring like the above fitting does?

However, how many sytys do you hear about making the 2 or 300k mark on the original engine? I only know of 1 or 2 right off and only one of those is touted as being on the original engine IIRC.
Since someone else revived the thread, I'll bite. I'm just shy of 180k. As far as I know, the valve covers have never been off. I haven't been to the track in quite a while, but I ran 13.857 @ 97.91mph with a 1.9xx 60' on my crappy locally-rebuilt trans. I don't beat on it, but I love torque and do use its power. I think I'm starting to have head gasket or ring issues on the passenger bank, but it's still running very well.

Ok, back to the regularly-scheduled topic. =)

Re: Oil filter adaptor FYI.

I ran into a small problem with my setup
my tilton style starter sits just below where the oil filter s/b
so i made an adapter
it looks like a hockey puck with two lines comming out the side
It uses a hallow bolt from a sunfire setup that threads up into the hole
that the oil filter "nipple" goes in and holds it in place
the puck can be mounted and rotated in any direction and i use 1/2 id
cheepo oil cooler hose it has lasted 6 years no fail and i have at least
10 psi / 1000 rpm up to 6000 rpm
oh and btw my lines run up to the front oil cooler and back again to the engine

i can post pics later ... im at work right now lol

I agree and especially like the black hard coat they put on the stuff.

No worries about me becoming a bolt on queen as the above adaptor as well as the remote oil filter adaptor I got from them will spend time with the die grinder for some porting/clean up ;) . Damn, I cant leave nothin alone  .
