oh boy, spark plug problem

well i was replacing the plugs and wires cause the truck was running alittle rough. im also running into a little knock (sarcasim). so i found this on my #6 piston. im running stock heads. i shoved a magnit down and didnt find anything. going to try a vacum now. im thinking to worst. the truck seemed to run ok. im hoping the piece is loose. i dont know.

I doubt it burnt up completely . It more than likely went out the exhaust (through the turbo-out the dp :tdown: ) .

Honestly I am happy to see you found something that may explain your knock . Hopefully with the new plugs and wires , you wont have anymore knock .

it was like that when i pulled it out. i dont know if i broke it while removing it or its been like that.

so, what just put the new plug in and cross my fingers?

If it just broke off during un-installation , you would see the clean spot where the electrode snapped off . If it is black all over , then you have been driving it like that for a while .I'd bet that thing blew out along time ago .

IMO You wouldn't have broken it. Without seeing it up close I suspect pre-ignition (knock) burned it. Stick the new ones in and set timing correctly. Maybe even run a little retard. I run 2* retard and helps allot. Do you have a scantool?

put a piston stop in the hole, bring it up to tdc, then rig up a compression tester to a shop vac and away you go. then put int a new plug, change the NOS jets from a 200 shot to a 50 shot and let 'er rip... heh.

chances are it broke a long time ago. since the electrode is effed up, chances are your knock was caused by hot spots on this plug. put a new one in, rev it in idle and see if you still get an assload of knock.
