NV3500 5-speed tranny on a SYTY

Just a question. Has anyone even considered the posibilities of "5 speeding" a SYTY? Seems that with a bad ass clutch setup, like the Dual Friction, it would be pretty bulletproof. Would this not put an end to the slow boost issues on a SYTY during launch? Imagine the possibilities. I may be way out of my league here, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm not sure why a manual would solve the 'slow boost issues' that i have yet to see.

A manual would create more problems than solve. Can't launch with any boost. Shock at launch would be high, you'd probably start snapping u joints, driveshafts, axles, burning clutches. Lose boost at shifts

We've covered the problems and issues with a manual 100 times. I don't think anyone has gone through the work to do one to prove us wrong. They once put a 6 speed in a Turbo Trans Am. Lost like 5-6 tenths in the 1/4, but gained a mph or two. It was great for top end with the .5 overdrive gearing though.

That makes sense. You may have covered the issues with the manuals a hundred times, but i have not yet had the time to view the thousands of posts in this forum. I have reviewed alot though. This was my first post here. Putting a 5-speed in a SYTY was something I had thought about for a long time. I did'nt think about boost loss during shifts, and I see your point. Thanks for the input! This is an invaluable resource for information regarding these little bad boys. Great site!

The manual transmission conversion question really belongs in the FAQ, along with the perennial "Convert my POS S-15 or T-15 to a Syclone/Typhoon". Who is the FAQ maintainer; I can contact them if they are not reading this.

You forgot to add "L-35's on Syclone does not equal stock class at Nats" .. :lol:
