New Parts for Old Trucks
I purchased today Sy #2042 . Good you say ,but wait . Its title is declaired for destruction by the state of Florida . The insurance company totalled it out , and it isnt fair to this 39,xxx mi truck to be crushed with its imaculant interior and drivetrain without damage . Slight frame bend at front bumper but that is it . I have come up with so far . . .

1. Do I switch vin # with a S-10 and have it registered and Insured as so ?

2. Do I search for a salvaged sy from board members who may have parted out a previous vehicle but still have a salvageable vin ? Any one , Any one ??

I have no idea how a wrecked vehicle differs between salvaged or declaired for destruction . Is it just paperwork stating I bought such parts and fixed such parts as to where they are driveable . I could live with that even if the value is of a salvaged vehicle . I would hate to fix the truck and only have my insurance cover her for the value of a S-beater if I go with no.1

Can Someone Help Me Out ??
My new avatar pic shows she doesnt need that much .

Hope this helps, Here in Calif it is possible to put a truck back on the road if you paid the neccessary fees & get the repairs done & get the truck reinspected by a state authorized inspector. Look into this more for your state. In California it's called a Junk Slip vehicle

I have no idea about legallities of the destruction title. You may want to find more about it.

Of the two options, I would go with #2, if I still had the title/VIN to Sy 2821 I would give it to you.

If you get it fixed and then have it inspected by your state, they will issued a rebuilt or repaired title. Shouldn't be that much trouble. I don't think it's legal to start switching VINs, besides you don't want to issure it as an S-10, if it gets wrecked again, they would give you squat for your 91' S-10 :x

Well after checking into it more I have found out I can either fix it and register it in another state (probably Georgia at my uncles address) , as they dont have salvaged titles , only clear titles there ,and drive it here in florida with georgia plates , or register it here as a KIT car title , but have it appraised for insurance value .

Unless someone out there can help otherwise .

I looked into fixing a wrecked typhoon here in cali...i went ot the DMV and they told me i could swap bodies and if they considered the frame to be "crap" they would issuse the body shop doing this an ok to do the nessacry actions

The worse case is the title should just be stamped as salvage.

If you are not trying to hide the fact, who cares?

Fix it, get it inspected, enjoy it.

Not sure why you would need to register as kit car.

It was totalled by the insurance company leaving its title as "Declaired for Destruction" , meaning its title is UN-rebuildable , and will never beable to be re-registered in the state of Florida . That doesnt leave much for options. As you can see it has only slight front damage at pass frame.

They probably label it for destruction as the company does not want to give you money and then have you or anybody else buy the vehicle totalled cheap and fix it. They don't want you or anyone else to benefit from the situation. Register it in Georgia.

I actually have a full set of cladding already so I am already that close to putting her back on the road .
