Not driveable, everything points to ECU/Prom

So I have had 1992 Ty 1714 for three years now. The previous owner (RiceEater) made it his experiment truck for tuning and crap wiring. I am doing a basic tune up in the next week or so for the basics (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filters). I put a new two bar MAP on it last week. The thing runs so poorly and so rich that I cannot get it out of the driveway. Everywhere I look under the dash and hood I find more hackjob wiring, twisting pieces of wire together to connect important things. For example, the power wire he had in for his subs ran from the battery to the trunk and consisted of NINE pieces of wire from the front to the back.

Anyways, after rereading all the posts he put on here I can attest that half the mods he talked about doing are not on this truck. It does not have Alky injection, the three bar MAP is a 2, and I believe it is a stock fuel pump and injectors.

Now, he posted a few times that things didnt work right or run with the correct mix due to bent/broken/poor wiring to the ECU and he had the prom in and out multiple times, the ECU case looks terrible.

-1714 105,000 miles

Would anyone suggest me buying another ECU AND Prom to get this thing back to stock? Or am I not looking at this correctly? Does anyone have these parts?

Thanks!

Best of luck. I too inherited a headache from someone else and I am coming up on one year, a new engine, a ton of money and I still haven't had one enjoyable drive.

I could advise you to completely redo everything, but then it might be sitting even longer. I would try and get it as close to stock as you can and clean the wiring up the best you can, tuneup as you said and see how it runs.Might be able to find someone local to do an ECM swap with.

Hang in there and good luck!
