found this while surfing. Says you dont need a computer for this 80E. Also you can buy a case for a direct swap with a 700r4. Anyone heard of this. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4L80E.htm

2006 - 4L80E in C4 Corvette Adapter Kit (1984 - 1996). Swap your 700R4 / 4L60E transmission to the much stronger 4L80E transmission with our new double strength case hardened output shaft and adapter kit. At this time we have in development an adapter kit for the C4 Corvette to replace your 700R4 / 4L60E transmission with the much stronger 4L80E transmission. This 4L80E transmission will be the same length as your 700R4 / 4L60E transmission making it possible to reuse your existing 27 spline driveshaft and C-beam. This is the worlds first 700R4 / 4L60E to 4L80E swap direct replacement. All that needs to be changed on the 4L80E transmission is the tail housing and output shaft. The full manual shift model works without a computer. www.transmissioncenter.net/4L80E.htm

I don't think that would be much use to the 4wd / awd guys. If you look at the housing, its just big enough to fit a slip yoke in. A tcase still has to bolt up, and you can't loose too much length, because the 80E case is longer than the 700R4.

Attention 4WD owners with Superchargers!

#10A. Swap your 4L60E transmission to the much stronger 4L80E transmission with our new double strength case hardened output shaft and adapter kit. You can use the computer you have now on 1998 up models with the use of our #10X wiring harness. The transfer case you have now can be used as is and will be moved 1 3/4 inches to the rear. Cost $464.00 Buy the shaft alone for $355.00.
This is more useful, but does move things back 1.75". Pretty much the same basic concept as the stuff from George Blake. Can't speak for the quality of the hardware or the pricing. You probably also need an adapter to mate the BW4472 up in the proper orientation.

The full manual 80E is possible for reasonably low money. It does have some disadvantages. From what I understand, making it full manual is a one way conversion, you can't go back to auto from manual. You have to replace the valve body. Also, one of the best things about the computer control is the fact that you can have your cake and eat it too. If you want a tranny that shifts smoothly while you're applying light throttle, but barks the tires on WOT upshifts, its possible with PCM control, but pretty hard to do with just manual hydraulic circuits. I'm not sure that I'd want to live with a full manual setup all the time. But that's just me. Your opinion is likely different. I believe the full manual setup is basically a super valvebody / shift kit. Can't remember who makes it though.

It's a Transgo HD3 kit.

The adaptor is for the NVG149. Won't work with ours. Shaft is too short and bolt pattern is different.

I was waiting for an answer. Thanks george. I figured there was a reason we could not use that.
