nitrous syclone?

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I have a question for you guys. I've had a 1991 syclone for quite some time now. It has a KB cold air intake, ultimate chip, warlboro intank, KB boost a pump, KB regulator, and KB underdrive pullies. It has 27,000 miles and I only dirve it about 500 miles a year.

The truck is fairly fast, and it provides some relief from my all out car (2002 nitroused ls1 which runs 10.60). I cruise it a lot (esp now that my trans am has quick time pros on it at all times). I have installed several nitrous systems on customer's 03 cobra and lightning...these things really pick up with a little spray! This lead me to ponder my next question:

I have done a lot of nitrous research for all my other cars, and was wonderingif anybody is running a 50 shot wet kit on thier syclone. I have a wide band o2 s o I can check if I am running lean. I am looking to run some easy 12.70's with this thing on spray. I understand that my truck has a weak piston/rod combo, but I really don think a 50 wet shot will hurt it too much. If it breaks, I'll just build another motor :D

Has anybody had success with using nitrous on a mostly stock syclone?

Thanks,
Conrad

Try it and let us know how it goes.

The only way I see it working efficiently is with a port setup. If you use one the TB plates I doubt your fuel distribution will be very good. I beleive tuning would be a nightmare.

The WB sensor is nice But it will show the average AFR not each cylinder. So one cylinder suffers from bad fuel distribution and POP goes the Piston.

You really better know what your doing and even most of those owners blow up their their trucks motors... Try searching on this site and through the archive on www.syty.org Lots of bad experiences.

As for 12.7's you should be able to tune your truck to run those times with pretty much what you have (maybe a few little things). What are you running right now?

I suggest an external wastegate (the stock internal will be worthless), and maybe an EGT probe in #1 or driver side collector. Keep a bit extra fuel in it, and even with a 35 shot you should see 60-75 hp.

Ok, so is there anybody out there that has tried this successfully? As far as a direct port kit goes, I really don't think that will be needed if I run such a small shot. Even if the distrobution is off, I doubt it would pool in this intake and I dont think it would cause a super lean condition.

Ghettosled: I have an EGT probe ready. Have you tried this? What kit did you go with? What wastegate would you reccomend????

Something tells me that this just might not be worth the headache. The truck turns a 12.99....but that was over a year and a half ago.

Basically, I want to run easy mid-high 12's. Hell, low 12's high 11's would be nice, but I dont know of any "tried and true" turbo/wastegate/converter combos that would get me there.

Well, if you all have any input on nitrous, lemme know. It looks as if I might be better off saving some cash and buying a complete turbo, wastegate, downpipe, and converter from somebody and doing this the right way. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Conrad

I saw someone at the nats last year install a 50shot, and proceeded to hurt the engine within the first 1/8th mile. :D :D

Can it be done successfully? Yea, Can you win the lottery, Yea.

Get into a PTE turbo combo, some tuning, truck will go 11's without NAAWWZZZ.

DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to run a dry kit with the FAST system that I have... probably in a while from now. Nevertheless, I have the kit and am going to run it... the intercooling benefit over the stock IC should be worth whatever you run.

Oh yeah, let us know how it goes...

I wouldn't touch the shit w/o a built motor.

I don't understand why you'd run nitrous on a motor that can easily make enough hp to blow it up on boost alone.

I guess I'm just not a fan of nitrous... turbocharged boost is so much easier on a motor.

i disagree, fellas - a very mild shot shoudlnt hurt anything - if it's DRY!!!!!!! AND THE FUEL PUMP CAN KEEP UP.
I would gnaw off my own pecker b4 i would spray wet into anything efi and blown.
wow, that sounds a little weird....

Just turn up the FP, Right?

no!!
dry systems function by bleeding off a very small portion of the n2o hit thru a regulator, this bumps up the fuel pressure - much like an fmu on a common centrifugal supercharger kit does.
this provides the extra fuel needed, thru the oem injectors, port to port, no distribution troubles.
but, bear in mind, fuel pump output drops with pressure increses - so, killer pump is mandatory.
a very small shot - 30-50 - will provide killer intercooler effect, yielding typically, near double claimed gains, as brian mentioned above.
i would preface all this by saying:
if your motor and fuel system and ears and octane arent up to snuff, i would not even think about this.
and even if it is all good, nos is not guaranteed safe to use - any detonation experienced will cause damage much faster with n20.

Yeh, we've done it. NX or NOS kits. Any good external will work. ITS mini gate, progate, race gate, richard lee wastegate, etc. Is it high on my recommendation list? no. But since you asked, I was only helping you prevent a blow up in the first 10 sec of WOT. When done right, it does work though.

Basically, I want to run easy mid-high 12's. Hell, low 12's high 11's would be nice, but I dont know of any "tried and true" turbo/wastegate/converter combos that would get me there.

Keep looking then. You will find many "tried and true" combinations.

yup it's compatible. Double checked with zex on that one.

how could spraying some freezing cold into some that freezes (like water from aquamist) a working idea?
