Newbie in Oklahoma

Hi Guys,
My Syclone was just delivered two nights ago... just getting acquainted with her. It's #1654, has about 70,000 miles but went through a frame-off restoration about 500 miles ago - almost everything appears to be new.
The previous owner owned a bunch of car dealerships in the South and appears to have spared no expense on having his 'boys' rebuild this one better than new.
It requires a bottle of 104 octane boost with every tank, and I would guess, is close to 400hp. I've driven some high 10-second street cars and I'd say this one is running probably close to mid 11's.
I'm really excited to be part of this fraternity of SYTY nuts and will contribute when I can. I've got a lot to learn, but have been hot-rodding for a long time, so should pick it up pretty fast.
I'll post some pics once the Holidays are over.

Merry Christmas!

Welcome aboard

The bottle of 104 octane per tank makes me wonder, I am guessing this is suggested from the previous owner? I'd like to know more about the build.

Where in Oklahoma are you?

I'm new and from Oklahoma as well, where are you located? I'm in Seminole, an hour from OKC.

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. I'm in Stillwater. The guys I bought the Sy from have a full photo album with receipts for the build on this one. They forgot to deliver it when the truck was delivered, but it should be here in a few days via UPS.

I'm interested in seeing what's in this one myself. I know that it's got a bunch of Kenne Bell parts in it, a 3" Magnaflow exhaust, 50lb injectors, polished plenums. That's about all I can tell by looking at it.

It seems to be dialed in quite well. It idles well at about 950 rpm, doesn't have any dead spots throughout the rev range (I've only had it at about 3/4 throttle so far), and scares the heck out of my wife! :D

It's going to be a great time owning it... I want to keep on with the previous owner's creed of making it better than factory. I'm already thinking about a big brake improvement. It may need an alignment as it seems to want to 'hunt' a little in a straight line. I'll try to get some pics up this weekend.

Once again, Merry Christmas!

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

welcome. Make sure it does not have the kenny bell chip or you will be looking at another rebuild soon. 400hp should put you arond the high 11's. Pics would be nice. my truck scared my wife too. Now she is scared it will never run again.lol Congrats on the truck. Its nice to see them restored.

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Thanks for the tip GJP. I'll spend some time going through the forums before I start asking 'dumb' questions ;)
I'm really anxious to get the build photos and parts receipts so that I can see what's in this little beast. I did see that the EGR bypass/elimination has been done, or so I believe by the little breather filter on the driver's side valve cover. A B&M shift kit has been installed which feels very similar to the one I put in my old '66 Plymouth Satellite coupe w/340 and 727 trans.... very crisp shifts, perfectly timed downshifts. Looking underneath, it also has the B&M deep tranny pan. With Christmas it's been a little hard finding the time to inspect.
Does anyone remember if there is a forum post that talks about the 'must do' mods, listed by priority? I'd like to make sure I've at least got the basics down.
BTW - you guys have put together one heck of a nice forum site here.... can't wait to attend some events and contribute any way I can.

I may be making a fool out of my self for pasting the above links, but that's what photobucket recommended.

I'll guesss I'll find out once it hits the forum.

Thanks for your patience!

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Thanks for the link GJP! I'll go through it carefully. I was wondering about the make of the exhaust. The muffler is embossed with some letttering, but unfortunately I don't hardly have time to even look at the Sy till after the 13th of January - out of town on a business trip :(

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Looks like my atr muffler. I spent weeks reading up on these little trucks when I bought mine last year. Mine was stock....was.LOL. Do you plan on keeping it stock? It looks nice. If you plan on getting on it hard I would get a scan tool and maybe find a local station that sells High octane gas. My local station sells 100 octane and I mix 5 gallons with a tank when I go out looking for fun.

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Nice looking truck Rob. Good luck with it.
To answer your question on where K5Cruz is located from you, Seminole is about an hour or so south and a little to the east of you. I'm ready to get back home to Okla, NO STATE INSPECTIONS.

Good looking Sy. I'll be back in the game shortly myself. We should all meet in Tulsa sometime next year on a weekend or something. Lots of good guys up that way

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Hey GJP,
about the best gas I can find around here is 91 octane, although the shop that built it recommends a bottle of 104 octane boost with each tank. I'm waiting on the build papers right now - supposed to be delivered by FEDX. So, I have no idea how it is set up right now - except to know that it is far from stock. The 104 tells me at least added boost, advanced timing, and probably higher fuel pressure. I'm anxious to see who's chip is in it (factory one is in the glovebox), as a previous poster warned me against the Kenne Bell (maybe one reason for the 104 recommendation). As I said before, though, it seems well dialed-in (no flat spots, starts and idles great, no hint of pre-ignition, etc.)

It sure does run, though! :p

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Hey J,
That would be great to meet up in Tulsa. As soon as the weather turns nice let's try and get all the Oklahoma guys (or others too!) together for a weekend.
How do all of you guys feel about driving your SY's on trips out of town??
I originally thought I'd just be driving mine to cruising events, etc., but if all of you say "Drive across the US", I'll drive it to some meets within a reasonable distance.
Thanks for the input.

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Thanks for the welcome Jay,
Is that your Charger? Reminds me of my good old days with my '66 Plymouth Satellite coupe and my '73 340 Duster..... what good memories! .....moved into the modern era now with the Sy ;)
