Newb sy shopping

Hi, Names Matthew and I live in Central Missouri. I have been looking for a Syclone for about 2 months. I went down to see Proto X's syclone and it was an awsome truck, shifts nice and hard, and runs great. I backed out of the deal, I would really like to find a lower milage one around the 50K range. There is one on Ebay #2642. Buy it now is $13K. Looks really clean, does anybody know anything about the truck? It's only 2 hours away. Hope to chat with you all in the future.

2 months?? :rotf:

It took me a year and half to find the right truck...and it ended up being NOT the Typhoon I was looking for. ;)

Take your time...don't be in a rush...and for cripe's sake, don't buy one off of ebay sight-unseen. Good move coming to the forum...buying a "known" truck or one that is checked out for you by those who know these trucks is hella smart.

And of course, pick up a copy of GMHTP to learn more about them.

GOOD LUCK!

Re: Newb sy shopping

I bought the third truck that I found, and I'm glad. Only took me a month to find mine. In retrospect, I should have waited and tried to find one closer, or at least one that someone I know could have looked at. Take your time, don't be in a rush.

Good advice for me. It's hard not to want to buy the first one you see but still important to remember. This one I'm looking at is sooper clean although I just seem to think I should be able to get it cheaper. I hate to think about spending 750-1000 to ship it home and I certainly don't want to buy a plane tkt and drive it back...I hate long boreing road trips across desert waste lands. It's a sweet truck but my gut just says the price could be better for a stock truck. I should wait as suggested.

I though you said it was only 2 hours away? Can't you get a friend to ride out with you, then just drive it back?

I found my truck in one hour, came into work on trade so I took the keys until they gave me a price. It looks like ass but its low mileage for 6500, cant complain.

Yeah, I can drive down and see this one as long as I can work it out with the seller. Hell, I drove almost 3 hours to see proto x's Sy. I am not in hurry to get one. The I'll find the right one eventually.

Re: Newb sy shopping

They thought mine needed a lot, abs light was on, didn't make boost, paint was faded, front bumper was bent.
I deleted the abs, put the intercooler to intake hose back on, buffed and waxed it, and straightened the front bumper so it lookes good goping down the road. still needs work but at least i'll be able to call it my own when im done if i dont sell it first.

Re: Newb sy shopping

Same as 12secondsy I found mine in about 5 minutes. Seen some guy at a stealership on a sunday looking at S-10 blazers. Asked him if he is trading it in and he gave me the salesman's name. I checked back everyother day for a week and it was there friday. I picked it up saturday afternoon. i don't regret the quick decision 1 bit. With only 60k on the clock for 13k I was happy to give it a new home.

Mine was the third one that I looked at. I emailed/called on atleast 6 others that I did not see. I was pretty particular about what mods I wound be acceptable (Ie I didn't want someone else's problem) It took me 9/10 months of looking, I wanted one within one day driving so I could fly out and drive back. Be more flexible about distance gives you a better selection, I had someone check out my Sy before I bought a plane ticket and flew down to pick it up. If you have a chance I would do that for any ebay/long distance truck.

Re: Newb sy shopping

Another thing don't get completely hung up on mileage. The first truck I saw had 38K miles on it and looked like it had 100K (it was recover theft and some things were hacked back together) and had overboost issues. The second truck, I looked with 25K miles was priced high but the cladding and paint need attention from oxidation. Some trucks with 100K miles look like they have half the miles and are babied, some 50K mile trucks are beat.

Re: Newb sy shopping

it took me about a month and i bought one for cheap #1428, so far i have fixed the ac, the check engine light, slapped on an exhaust, not performance, the p/s window motor, the cruise control, the abs, and did a minor tune up with some msd parts. all for less than 350 bucks in parts and I did all the work. can anyone tell me more information on this truck?

You can get a vote on all the guys who didnt want to drive their trucks back home after they bought it, and just about all of them will say it was a trip well worth taking.

I drove mine back 900+ miles one way over the whole weekend, meet up with a few other people I knew, and had fun every single second of the trip. Mine was the 5th or 6th I looked at online, and I looked at 3-4 in person before that.

In a way I'm happy with my truck, becuase most of what I wanted to do is already done. But there are some things I wish I could of done myself. But I'm over that. Milage doesnt seem to matter like the others have said. You could find a 20k mile truck that looks like its had 200k put on it. Or you could get a 200k truck that looks like a 20k one. Its all in the own(ers) of the truck. ;)

Re: Newb sy shopping

I didn't enjoy the trip back in the truck. Got pulled over before I had even put 30 miles on it  . But seriously, I got stuck in traffic from Cheyenne to Denver. Same trip took 1.5 hours that morning, took 4 hours. The whole time I was worring that I would get rearended or someone would try to get into my lane where I was. I was a stressed mess, but happy when I got it home :D

Re: Newb sy shopping

i am getting rid of those huge ass rims going to stock 98 camero rims for now. I am not the "bling-bling" type of guy. they are HEAVY too. I want the z06 rims but i dont think i want them in the 17/18 combo 17s at all four corners would be fine for me.
