Hello all I am Mike. I Just bought a '92 White/gray Typhoon. It ha 162k miles. It was originally bought in Santa Barbara in 10/93 and I believe it has been in Cali it whole life. The good- hardley any rust just a little from cladding rubbing through and a dot on bottom of left rear side window, interior 95% perfect, wheels just refurbished, new tires and body shows very clean. Oh yeah picked her up for $5300 too. The bad- oil leaks from oil cooler lines, valve covers and ? Vehicle has low power . I think it is a plugged cat but am going to check the usual sy/Ty stuff. Heater bypassed, a/c inoperative and guy converted it to 134a (will switch back to 12), front fenders slightly interfer with doors (need to be realigned) probably poor body repair. Cladding needs a little aligning but is in good condition. Last thing is steering vague but probably just tie rod ends or idler arms hopefully not gearbox.

Congrats, the steering is pretty vague with these trucks. most of the slop is in the shaft, most upgrade to newer jeep cherokee shafts. and the valve cover gaskets are an easy fix, but check the grommet for the air tube pcv, thats where my covers leak. price you paid seems fair. When I bought mine it had sat for a few years but a full tune up with new wires, plugs, and filters and it runs like a champ. btw I used the ngk plugs and idle is perfect. plus the're easy to find most places will sell you the wrong delco plugs so check the numbers, to what the board recomends.
And if you do have a cat problem get a high flow cat dont gut it, these trucks dont like it and overboost like crazy.

Re: New Ty owner of #2356

Thanks ASMO. I'll check into the steering shaft. I own an auto shop so I smogged it ( (acually wasn't a test only). Insured it ( $41 a month- full coverage).and registered it all in about an hour today. It is lowered 2" (blocks) but I acually may raise it back up. My wife thinks it looks like a kids car. Her SRT8 jeep GC towers over it by about 6". I may run it over to my muffler guy tomorrow to check the cat. Then fuel filter it and start on the oil leaks soon. Fun car to drive but definatly 20 year old suspension technology. I may look into the coil spring front set ups and maybe a ABS bypass kit (brakes are spongy as f#%€.)... Mike

Why are you switching back to 12 when its already converted to 134? I know 12 is colder than 134, but why go back through the hassle and cost when you can now easily refill your system yourself when it gets low?

Hello there, is this Ty the one for sale in Los Angeles Venice Beach area? The mileage seems familiar that I have seen for sale for a while now. Anyways good look with the truck, Ive had mine for over a year and little by little I am working out the little bugs.

SYO237, yes it is easier to stay with 134a ,but, I can still get R12 and Freez 12 (which acually cost the same as R134a) and it does work better than 134a in an ld system like this and usually doesnt leak as easily. I will probably change out the compressor, drier and orofice, flush out the system and start from scratch. BTW I own an auto shop so getting R12 is not a problem.
biggeolb- Yes it is the one that was for sale in Venice. He was asking $7500

Welcome, Not alot of people know it but you can get full coverage special interest car insurance thru Hagerty classic car insurance. Mine runs me just under 200 a year with an agreed value of 7k. But you do have to have another car to say you use as your daily driver.

Interesting, I do have it set up for less than 7500 a year through State Farm, and my mother in law (step) is the secretary. I like them because they have gone to bat for me on more than one occasion in a claim. My '01 Esprit got keyed once ( one scratch from passenger door to rear quarter panel) and the body shop I took it to charged almost $8000 to fix it. State farm paid up, no questions asked.
