Well, I sold my Borgeson shaft in lieu of prototyping/testing a new and more affordable type of shaft. This weekend while I and a fellow syty'er were shopping at one of our favorite local places, we found what appeared to be a direct bolt in steering shaft. Sure enough, we found 3 alternatives, all of which fit.
There is ONE difference from these shafts to our stock ones....the connection at the firewall for our setup has a hole drilled though the shaft going to the steering column. Our stock shaft has a bolt that goes through this when you install the stock style, or borgeson replacement shaft. The alternative shaft doesn't have this center bolt....it assumes a notched out section at the top of the portion of the steering colum coming through the firewall. So it requires one of 3 types of work arounds: Shaving/grinding the bolt in the middle (this is what i've done for mine and the other typhoon it is currently installed on), using a nut and bolt that doesn't get in the way, or notching out the said section of the steering column.
If you look at the 3 types, #3 has no dampening unit. You can feel some engine vibration, and you get lots of feedback through turns. We installed this in conjunction w/ a ZQ8 box, and the new feel is incredible. #2 is on my truck, and feels the exact same as the borgeson shaft did before i took it off. I also have a ZQ8 box on my truck. Tonight #1 is going on a Syclone, and I'm confident of the same results.
So...my next question is....who here is sick of steering play, and would like to get in on a group buy for these shafts?? Cost is undecided at this point, but if we have enough people (you can choose the type-1,2, or 3) i'm thinking $100 plus $10 shipping. Included w/ the shaft will be a nut and bolt for the firewall side installation, but you can choose to grind down a bolt if you so choose. (This definitely weakens the bolt, so I will not be offering this through the group buy - i do not want people breaking the bolts and blaming me)
