ok ... I just sold my ty to a guy in Utah I met him him Rawlins WY (1/2 way) on his way home be began to have some problems .... he is driving along at highway speeds and the engine sputtered out and died, and will not run, if he leaves it for a bit it will start up and run great for for about 10 -15 mins and then do the same thing again ... has over 1/2 tank of gas.

the truck is bone stock with 39k on it except it has a walbro 255 fuel pump with 39k on it and I have never had this kind of problem with it ... does anybody have any idea what this could be???

are there any members in the salt lake city area that could help with me out if needed?

I should also mention that the temperature gauge is reading normal

Re: Need your help... Ty stalling out

You might have backpressure in the exhaust somewhere. The cat could be breaking down because you’re too rich with your fuel. If you’re running rich the cat gets warmer and evnetually starts to break down . When you shut the vehicle down the exhaust pressure has time to bleed off again and you’re good for another 15 min . How is it for power? Power loss is the main indicator. Maybe a squirrel ran up your pipe and died. Ha ha just kidding :rotf: . But let us know what you find out.

Def have him check ignition. Sometimes a coil or ign module will break up under high temp. Drive for a while, it acts up, and as soon as it cools it goes back to working for a bit only to fail again. Good news is that we use std. S-Series ignition components, so the coil and module combined should be less than $60-70.

could have melted a wire also.
Have him check the wires on the DP side of the motor.
I don't think that would be so intermittent but its possible.

It's pretty common on a road trip actually.
Your local trips around town may have been fine, but once the wire layed on the DP for a few hundred miles the heat really gets to it.

I've melted at least 5, 2 of those on the road to Nats one year.

What a nice introduction into SyTy ownership, tell him to get used to it. lol

DITTO on the ignition module and/or coil. Usually when an ignition module goes, it goes. There isn't and "gray area" with them. They either work or they don't at all. A bad ignition module won't generate a reference pulse preventing the injectors from firing. Part number is 1048-2827 (located under your distributor cap, BTW).

As far as to ignition coil goes you can check the resistance if you have a meter. In electronics as temperature increases, so does resistance. You can see my write up how to check it here.

Could be a burned wire too as mentioned by Jason. Especially if it's on the passenger side near the downpipe.

fuel tank not venting creating a vacumn in tank.... leave cap off and drive it. costs nothing to try it.

You could also try replacing the fuel filter, did you do that when you swapped pumps? Also, is doing it when its HOT out? Ive been having this problem and swapped pumps and seems to have cured it.
