Need Help

hello,

Well what can I say, it hasn't been that good of a day. Took the syclone to my parents (about a 22mile drive), It's basically a straight shot down a four lane highway. I took a detour and went by a friends house and got on the truck a little bit (took it up to about 85/90) and then let off and promptly returned to regular cruising speed (55mph). I came up to a stop sign to get back onto the four lane and continue to my parents house. I normally accelerate at 1/2 throttle when regularly driving. Well, the truck started to buck some, so i let off to where I was just barely accelerating (about 1/4throttle). I made it to my parents and visited for a little bit and limped the truck home (read at 1/4th throttle).

the problem in a nut shell: The truck bucks if you try to go much more then 1/4th throttle. The factory boost gauge (which normally reads around the -15 when regularly cruising down the road without throttle or with bare minimum throttle to maintain speed) is now reading at around the 0 mark, and the bucking starts at around 3/4psi on the factory gauge. The truck has an aftermarket Air-To-Air intercooler (The Kenne-Belle one).

Am I right in assuming that i have some sort of leak in the intake track somewhere between the turbo and the throttle body, and would this be a logical assumption to make since the intake system is now at atmospheric pressure?

Thanks and any help will be appreciated,
Sean

Re: Need Help

Notice any smoke from tailpipe? Any smoke puffing from oil filler neck at idle? Do a quick look over of your intake and vacuum lines, see if anything obvious has popped off.

I don't want to be pessimistic, but it sounds like something in the bottom end to me.

Re: Need Help

i would agree with the boost leak. im sure you've started looking already.

Re: Need Help

Actually after working on both my ford ranger (daily driver) and my cousin's ford ranger today, I didn't have much day light left to spend on the syclone. I am going to mess around with it tomorrow and see what I can figure out.

Re: Need Help

Kinda vague description but my first thought would be fuel or ignition. Meaning that as soon as any throttle is added you're either running out of fuel pressure (clogged filter, bad FP, ect.) or you're running out of spark (Bad coil or anything in the dist). Vac leaks would mean a really bad idle.

Try power braking it and see what happens.

Can you check fuel pressure?

Re: Need Help

Yeah I can check fuel pressure. Goodness, I have had a really busy last couple days (real life sucks when it invades on time for syclones, etc.)

The ignition components are all new (plug, wires cap rotor), idles as good as it always has.

I know that there is no smoke coming from the tail pipes or from the breather on top of the valve covers.

The annoying thing is the boost gauge.

Re: Need Help

Check the vacuum line to the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor itself or the wiring could be bad also.

Ya I know what you mean. :) I would think that you've got no boost because it won't run above 1/4 throttle. Once you fix that I'll bet boost will return. Let us know..

Re: Need Help

There's only one line that goes to it. The top fitting is how to adjust your fuel pressure.

Re: Need Help

so it is hooked up right there in the last picture? nothing should go to the other hole?

Thanks,
