i busted a plug wire and the only one we could get that way laying around was an old one off a 95 blazer.. just for the night i plan on replacing them all in the morning brand new.... however i still need help. i put new acdelco plugs in her, got them just a little tighter than hand tight and its sluggish at 5lb boost and any higher and she starts like coughing.... think its the old wire? or maybe i didn't get one of the plugs in all the way?? what do you guys think... the change happened right after the new plugs went in so its nothing else.... also whats the correct gap ? right now its at stock.. maybe thats part of the prob too? and my other question... on #3 plug (driver side middle) how are you guys manourving(sp) around the steering column... when i took out the old plug i busted it trying to unscrew it with an extension.

ill check back in the morning and see what you all think...rob

Prolly just the inadequate spark plug.. Stay out of the boost.. If the plug is questionable the LAST motor it needs to go in is a Forced Induction motor. Its prolly not firing correctly, may even be the WRONG heat range.. Like I said before STAY OUT OF BOOST til U can change it.. It will get ya around town but its not gonna win and drag races.

Sorry just RE-READ the original post.. Possibly its the plug wire, if the resistance is too great then U will see the performance drop off. Voltage is the key as the BOOST goes up.. The more boost, the more resistance the plug has to overcome to fire, therefore you need more power(ie voltage) to fire the plug. IF the wires are questionable (even ONE wire) it will make a difference. Change them if its still doing it, then its yer plugs if it wasnt doing it before you changed the plugs.. Like I said before, STAY OUT OF THE BOOST and it will be alright

thanks... makes sense... its an old wire and prob much cheeper too... im low in funds so i can't go with anything performance... prob just the best that shucks or napa has. what about plug #3, how do you guys get it in and out.. the rest seem to go straight in with a wrachet and deep socket.... except #3 can't go stright because of the steering column.

The only way I can get #3 is with a 19mm shorty wrench from Sears.Use it on the sparkplug socket, you should be able to turn it at least 1/64 of on inch at a time...

Use a spark plug socket with the built in swivel, and an extension. You should be able to get it on the #3 plug enough to break it free, then remove it by hand. Start the new plug by hand, turn it as much as you can by hand (or use the rubber tubing trick to spin it in there), then put the socket back on to snug it down.

I got my spark plug socket with the built in swivel at Sears I believe. It makes changing plugs simple as heck. Some taylor wires, new plugs and that spark plug wrench should get your wallet for like 65 bucks. Cheap insurance...

Don't forget the spark plug wire Boot Puller. Too many people destroy their wires by yanking on them. Also alittle die-electric grease in the boots help also.

Later,
