Need A New Name For A Chip!!!!!!!

Re: Need A New Name For A Chip!!!!!!!

Is there gonna be a PDF to explain everything? I know the GMP4 doc has a lot in it but sounds like so much is gonna be revamped that the GM doc won't really have much bearing on the new design.
I know our engines currently use "batch fire". Is there any chance that the wiring could be changed to allow sequential? Just really wanting to see what can be done for mileage. After what Mike did with the stock setup, I could only imagine what could be done with closed loop wideband, sequential fuel injection setup. Would the new ecm still handle the setups where they've gone to a distributorless ignition?

If you don't understand the original chip, not much hope to learn just because of this new stuff. Most things still apply.

Sequential is possible, but probably require a different ecm, and wiring changes for sure. Not sure most would want to go through that.

Ack. Ponch v1.0?

I say no thank you, sir.

Just so folks understand, this is being written with other applications in mind, vs. just being a Sy/Ty thing. In theory, we could run this codebase on any 4-6-8 cyl vehicle.

Sort of an open-source FAST/DFI. In fact, with the simple XDFs, it should be as easy to tune as a FAST/DFI.

No plans to do sequential right now... we'd have to evaluate just how feasable it would be.
We are working on things for mileage enhancement, aside from sequential. Don't expect
40 MPG miracles, there's only so much you can do within the realm of physics.

DIS should work fine, as long as there weren't major code changes made to support it.

We're working documenting our changes to a better standard than what was available in
the XDE that's floating about. That being said, it'll probably be a while before we get around
to fixing the existing documentation. We've got bigger fish to fry.

I would guess some of the fuel formula's may change some. Realistically the overall tuning approach is still applicable. The theory of engine tuning learning curve will still be there. Your still going to be doing table of timing, VE, AE, PE, Boost Control, etc.

Read this post from Bruce Pelican "Grumpy" (I probably have never asked him a direct question but I have learned so much from his posts)

I am really really excited about this open source $58 code. I had a project in mind about rewriting the source for the $58, but the scope was not as ambitious as the group is planning. You going to saved me a ton of time. I can cross off my list of project: ECM test bench, brush up on assembly code, rewrite source code, & modify scan tool for changes. This project is going to make $58 > GM ECM's.

Re: Need A New Name For A Chip!!!!!!!

No chip, no system will teach anybody to tune. It is like most things in life it will require some research, trial, error, practice.

Think back to simple Jr. High Math class. It sucked then, now most take it for granted. Same deal here. Once you learn it, it becomes 2nd nature and you learn the next step.

The new chip will simplify some things, but at same time give the user more options so if you don't understand the stock bin layout you will be MORE confused.

Anybody wanting to learn, needs to just get started. If you have the drive you will pick it up. Start playing with tune at idle. Chances are you can't mess up anything mechanical at idle. You will start to pick up how things work. Once you play then you can ask detailed questions, not large general questions people that do tune won't answer. "How do you tune?" will get you worthless answers that match the worthless question.

Now if you read/study the P4 doc, and ask "When does the F29c table take effect?" you will probably get a good answer.

Holy hell. Open source tuning.

 :shocked!: :git:

Good job guys. Been waiting to see something like this. It comes at a great time too.

Oh and my submission is "The Blizzard"

Storm related. "Cool" sounding

Or I don't think "Gale Chip" has been submitted. While not a popular usage of a word...goes along with the storm sound.

Or since it might be a NWSTP project, you could call it "The Nor'wester". Storm related....gives you guys credit.
