My Ty's vin with L-35s

I checked my Ty last night and it does have the extra bung as described, making these L-35 heads too. It would explain why it has always had something "extra" :D I am basically the original owner since May 1994. There was a prior owner, but she only had it for 9,000 miles. Motor has never been disturbed at all. Last 4 of the VIN is 2127 and the production date from the door jam is 4/6/03 if anyone is keeping track.

I don't have my chip data here at work, but the .350 value seems incorrect to me, I want to say it is .450 for some reason.

As far as the fueling adjustment, your overview seems correct, but it still might not adjust the fueling at WOT all that much, considering how poorly the BLM works in the Syty's. Basically it would overall add more fuel in closed loop, with all else equal, and only swapping chips. Considering the open throttle BLM updates most often at cruise conditions, I can't see how it could account for the differences you'd see at higher RPM/boost. Not commenting on your theory Blake, just making observations if this was GM's "thoughts" :x

I'll go over this in more detail at home if I have time.

According to the pics above, it looks like I have the L35's.

93 ty #1590
3rd owner, for 6years.
I have what looks like a complete history of my Ty, and there is no data indicating a swap/replacement, so I believe it came from the factory like this. :D

I hear you Brian.
The .350 volts came from a bin that another fellow sent me a long time ago of his BBZA bin when I was trying to learn more about the changes GM made from chip to chip. It's possible that he had tweaked it, not sure, but that was the only field(other than the obvious other changes, Date, etc)that was changed. I was thinking on the "easiest way to fix something" as far as applying it to GM thinking. I'm sure they didn't want to invest any more time than they had to on it.
It definitly looks like BLM goes out the window on WOT anyway so it really wouldn't help on the L-35 air flow issue. I guess that comes up empty on that theory also :( I just can't believe they put those one there and didn't adjust anything.
Thanks guys,
Please find out more!!

Looks like I'm a member of the L35 club and I don't own a ty... According to a warranty check I had done after I got my truck, the motor was replaced with 25K on the clock. I'm the third owner so, I don't know if the replacement motor came with L35's or someone else put them on. Can anyone else who had a motor replaced under warranty vouch if they got the stock heads or L35's?

Based on the pictures it appears as if I have the L-35's built 2/6/93 ty #1183 I have no idea what has been done to it I am the 8th title holder based on carfax but my ty has been though hell, most of which has been with salvage companies, as far as I can tell the engine is the only thing thats original. I'll try to check it out in more detail when I have more time. What are the benefits to the L-35's? I know it's a good thing but why?

well now i am very exited to go to the shop that has my motor all apart!!! the heads are off.....but i own a syclone? i know its not a 93 ty but, the motor was replaced, because a rod went through the block. now if the history that i got is correct, i wonder if they kept the stock heads? now i hope not! because if they are the l 35s......mine have 1.6 and 2.20 valves 5 angle race job, and a hella lot of porting! i pray to the sy ty gods that i do  ill let ya know

Hey Mike!

Syclone #00837 has them as well. Per GM VIS Summary:

4/26/95 Code #J1880 Engine Assembly RPL @ 3200 miles

L35 Heads confirmed.

I don't mean to throw more fuel on the fire, but we have to come up with a better way to identify L35 heads. I have L35s on my rebuilt motor that do NOT have the knock sensor holes above the temp sensor holes. I'm pretty sure they are L35s because they don't have the siamesed intake ports (like the stockers) but they do have the little "hump" in the intake port. Unfortunately, I don't know what vehicle they came from, the machine shop got them for me.

Oh, BTW, if anyone is interested in cheating, I'll trade these "stealth" L35s for Vortec heads and a modified lower intake.... :D

P.S. My original motor has the regular LB4 heads ('93 Ty #0650).

I know we talked about this Bill, but I still find it really puzzling, as the L35 SAE paper made a big point of those heads having knock sensor provisions. Kinda like finding an LS1 with a cast intake manifold.

Well, I'm going to replace the valve covers soon. I'll let you know what I find for casting numbers and any other identification.

That may be one of those heat discs that melt or change color if the engine is overheated. Supposed to help rebuilders shrug off warranty claims when people abuse engines. They make stuff for trannies also.

Hey Bill,
Are you positive there is no hole there? When I rebuilt my first L-35, it has a pipe plug in there and it was so full of crud and rust, it looked like the rest of the head surface until I took a wire wheel and small punch to it. If the heads have been painted, they may have painted right over it.

Here's what's been posted so far:

Sorry Rick, didn't realize it was gonna be hard to read that way.

Obviously looks like between 0377 and 1011, the L-35s were phased in. Be nice to know exactly when and if it was abrupt or bounced back and forth for a few trucks.
I hope more people see this. Remember, this is for Ty's with L-35's stock. Don't give a number for a Sy with a replacement engine. Doing research on any truck that came STOCK with L-35s.

Blake,

I'm not sure I understand your post being that you have the word "Without" in there and I posted that my Ty #`1215 has the L35's
