Don't believe everything you hear about a syty specific valvebody. The current GM part number for a Sy will cause no shift before the rev limiter.
They put two of them in my truck before listening to me.
wow, thats what happened with my Jasper trans and the assholes wouldnt believe me. Glad I didnt put that back in my truck :)

FWIW, I thought there was no way of actually identifying a SyTy valvebody from any other valvebody unless you KNOW it came out of a SyTy?

you can remove each valve and measure them. thats really the only way of knowing what you;ve got. and yeah you;d also need a spring scale to measure the spring rates of all the springs.

So the tranny shop called me today (long time no see :D )

well he said it shifts good, but he wants more time to drive it in the am.

I got no problem with this since the track gates dont open till 4pm anyway :D

I told him no problem.

I think i will only drive it down the main road here for a couple miles and back so if it breaks i can just hop on a bus. seriously thats my plan so i dont need to walk back to my shop!

Also i told him this way he can be sure the TCC works when enabling the switch.

besides that i dont really need it back anyway since my new transmission jack wont arrive till tomorrow afternnon. :D

Hmm wonder if i am going to get a warranty on this? :D

ed

I guess i might as well go to the track tomorrow night and get breaking it over with quickly.

Did they put the HD sun gear shell back in it? Even the Beast sun shell is better than the stocker.

What about the new sprag and reaction carrier shaft? Those get pulled as well?

So the original pump I sent you is gonedy?
It already had the bushings and everything installed in it. Shouldn't have had any unususal wear from it rubbing on the input shaft. That was why I liked the pump so much. Was the pump and TD input drum IN the case when it was dropped? This would make sense then.

Typhoon valvebodies are still available from the dealer. Just need the matching GS separator plate.

The supplyer must know what a syty is to be helping out correctly.

If they set the clearances on the servo correctly, the band won't be a big issue. Don't worry about it.

As far as opening the gasket for the separator plate, of course. Why drill the hole and then leave the gasket overlapping it? Your right, Ed. At least they are reading the directions now.

Sounds like your soft shifts are from the TV valve hanging up repeatedly.
The replacement valvebody will more than take care of that problem.

It really sounds like the owner took it in the ass on this. They couldn't possibly charge you for a case, valvebody, separator plate, and ANOTHER band.

the sun shell they used.

the shaft thru the drum showed some uneven wear. they claim they replaced this assembly with the same thing (i guess this isnt a sole supplier part?) same thing being the upgraded versions. I have the td assy sitting here with me.

sprag they used

reaction carrier shaft they used

the new pump was sitting on the table, i told them i want that back.

so was my original valve body. I want that back also

I dont know if it was in the case or not but yes this would make sense why they would replace the pump and the td shaft and drum assy. If it were in the case and the case got bent it wouldnt take to much runout on the centerline to pork these things.

So time will tell.

So george whatdaya think. give it 5 heat cylces or or go beat the piss out of tomorrow night. :D

Actually i think i will just go for a very long drive on my home tomorrow night. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable experience.... like getting to gether with a friend you havent seen in a long while.

Sure will be nice to get on with this and finally get the dfi 7 installed.

as for a spare trans? i am going to hold off till after i have had some time
to read whats in the atsg i ordered.

If this breaks soon i will just get a tci from keystone. final price from my vendor delivered to my door just arrived in email $1335.35 to my door. (they have their own delivery trucks. But like i said the trans jack will be here tomorrow.

typical day at deleware valley tranmissions

:silly: "Duh, hey boss. I got a little problem here. after I dropped this here newfangled transition I can't get this here fancy red oil stuff it stay in. I tried stopping it up with a lil chewin gum but it don't seem to help nun. whatcha want me to do now? "

:banghead: ":It's probably gonna be OK, especially since we ain't gonna use none of them fancy parts he sent. I'll try to call the guy who trained me on these newfangled things. I still think these things don't work as well as when Henry put a drive chain on his Fords."

:drinking: Don't ask me. shit, I quit working on these things when they told me I had to use special oil and couldn't just use the same stuff we put in the motor. besides, I wasn't supposed to teach transmissions. it was supposed to be welding!"

:silly: "shit man, thats a good idea! I'll just weld all the cracks up! It's underneath where no nobody can see it anyway. If I put enough welds in it maybe I can get out of puttin some of these extree parts in too.

:banghead: "did someone say there's a guy named Ed on the phone? fuck, this is gonna be a long day. someone get me a drink"

:drinking: "you called? you need me to teach you somemore bout fixin these transitions"

:banghead: "please... someone just shoot me"

actual they didnt tell me they dropped it . ya see i didnt call.

I just showed up to get the extra parts and bad tc and when walt wanted to show me what they needed to know from sonnax i just followed him into the building room. There on the counter was an empty tranny case.

I aint stupid on what shit looks like so i said to ralph,

That sure looks like a 700r4 case, so what happened that made you change the case? (safe assumption on my part)

ralph not being the sharpest gear in the lineup simply rolled the case over to show these 2 big cracks in the bellousing area. one about a foot long and the other about 4 inches.

I tell ya what somebody there must be lucky to still have a job!

lucky for them...unfortunate for the customer.

They have had Walt present me with the bill 2 years ago and again after build no 1 (which i paid). Since Walt has a tendancy to lay it all out for me when he is at my shop or outside in their parking lot. It is going to be real interesting when i ask Walt what they were doing about the cost of the parts that got damaged when they dropped the tranny.

From what i understand walt has had a lot to do with the low charges ive had in the past.

I allmost dont give a shit about any charges at this point if i can only have my truck back. emotionally i'm fn tired.

I had a brainstrom today.... wonder if i can find a builder in the philly area with a tranny dyno...yall gonna love this.... My ex neighbor whose wife is the in-house lawyer for AAMCO is going to be at my shop tomorrow to get some work done. I wil get him to find out if she will know if ammco has a dyno...maybe at their corp offices.....

It would be great to be able to test your own diy build before you do a DVT install. (dvt install = delaware valley trans install)

mike
cmon over!

shifts good (at least i think so at this point). But with all the anxiety i just need to have it a awile to be sure. It is firmer than what i had before it broke (before i gave it to them... I figured the point of breakage needs clarification here :D ) drove it about 10 miles with walt. shift points might be a bit high. but damn i havent driven it in so long im not sure.

mike is gonna come over so we can compare. I called em up.

Anyway time will tell.

So i get back into their parking lot and i ask walt:

Hey walt does he have any kinda bill in there for me.

Walts answer: Fuck em, cya later.

i couldnt agree more! :D

well at least ya can't argue with the bill so far. it would drive me bonkers though to wait and see what the real bill will be. did they give you back any of the old or unused parts? sere they friendly or was it more a matter of "hey ed, just get this thing out of here"

Let us know how it works cause I'm lookin for a place to get one rebuilt at and this place sound like a shop that I would consider...

i didn teven bother askin for anything old back. I figured they ruined the pump, the band and i know they ruined the td assy which i did get back.

I have no use for any of it. take my lumps and get on with it....

So now i can get on with planning for my next tranny...

how bout just having george so the whole 9 yardes on the next one. does he do that? I'll tell ya what. dependin on what my schedule is and the timing if yu can get me the stuff you want to go back to him and someone will meet me half way between where I live and and george I'll help ya out and do the pony express thing for ya. don't know exactly where you are in jersey. give me a hint. trenton, camden, close to the GW, turnpike or what. I can make it from the GW to my house in about 7 hours withput doin the aj foyt thing. cinci is about 5 hours from me. if it was a year ago I was in the city so often I could have helped ya out and picked it up from you.

on a clear day i can see the benfranklin bridge if i stand in the street in front of the shop. i.e near camden. 10 minutes from either the walt whitman or benfranklin to philly.

Honestly i want to do the next one.

Whatever didnt go into this... i dont really know and wont unitl it fails. but i posted above whati belevie went into it.

with the exception of the pump and the band i thnik i still have the whole package.

So only time will tell and then what is found inside if and when their is a failure.

But like i said i want to do the next one. Or buy a hughes unit with all this stuff in it and then redo this one.

right now i just need a breather..... i put so much effort into the motor and everyting else in such a short time that i am emotionally spent over this tranny thing.

first step next is for me to read the atsg once it gets here and then go from there.
