Thanks!

Today I was able to weld the bov on and put the intake tubing in for good(probably not).

While its a terrible pic, here a quick before and after shot..

obviously I still need to rework the engine harness but it's looking much cleaner. Yesterday I was able to redo the downpipe, make the throttle cable bracket and put some stuff back on. In the future I'd like to go with a throttle cable that goes under the intake instead of over but the stock one will have to do for now.

The list is getting smaller through. Stuff left is....
-breather setup
-heater box
-waste gate downpipe
-wrap the rest of the downpipe
-engine harness
-headlight mounts
-tubing for air filter
-vacuum lines(going all braided line)
-change all fluids
-new boost controller

Wow, I forgot how bad it used to look lol.

What do mean "-waste gate downpipe", I thought we talked about this?

im going to make it dump next to the frame instead of inside the engine bay

So hows it coming along? Starting to consider the 6.0 pullout option since Ive been seeing them for about $850 with ECM and all.

It's going really slow! 45hrs a week at work and 40hrs a week at school doesn't leave much time for cars. I did start reworking the wiring harness on Saturday afternoon though. Been collecting more parts to button up other things. Hopefully I can post some updated pics in the next few weeks.

How is your fuel pressure regulator set up any details?

Line goes in from the pump to the regulator, another line goes to both rails and another for the return.

This is what is left of my engine harness after pulling out all the connectors..

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build! update, way over budget, 9's or bust!

Been just over 2 years since I updated this thread. I changing career fields after 8yrs and have been working on several other projects that have kept me off line a lot. Figured I would update this since things have slowed down for me lately.

I have done things here and there for the last 2yrs but have really just been driving it. Ill just post a few pics of the upgrades I have been since then....

Just over a year ago I pulled the old AEM Tru-Boost controller out and put in a Boost Leash controller. Pulled the stock radio out and put the controller in its place while relocating the the AlkyControl controller in it as well.

Around the same time I purchased a AMD aluminum hood with a 2" cowl.

I quickly learned that the aluminum hood was a POS made of tin foil thickness metal. With just the factory hood latch being used, the sides of the hood flopped around at any speed over 80mph. Literally looked as though the hood was going to fold in half and rip off. With that being said, I purchased a set of AeroCatch hood latches.

Please note the dent in the hood that happened when I simply just pushed the hood down to latch with the stock latch.

Latches all installed. They are pricey pieces for hood latches but VERY nice quality.

Then a few months ago I finally started to make some control arms like I talked about years ago. For now I just made upper arms. Made of DOM steel tubing and 1/4" flat steel. All the tubing was cut with a portable band saw and notched with a tube notcher. The flat plate for the ball joints were cut out by hand with my plasma and cleaned up by a grinder and flap wheel. All tig welded....

All installed. Pic taken today.

There are some engine bay things I have upgraded and changed but dont have pics yet.

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build! update, way over budget, 9's or bust!

Currently I am working on a CTS-V brake upgrade to replace my C5 front and stock rear brakes. Like most things I have done on this truck, I am going to do it the hard way. I am doing this after racing in a 1/2 mile event and realizing how terrible my old setup was for high speeds.

GOALS
- First gen CTS-V 4 piston brakes from and rear
-14" front rotors and 13.4" rear rotors
- Fit all of that under a 17" wheel for my drag setup

PARTS
- Brand new calipers purchased off of Amazon
- 2010 Camaro SS 14" front rotors, drilled/slotted
- C6 Z06 rear rotors, drilled/slotted
- Renzfab brackets and lines

The problem I am going to have now is that the Renzfab front brackets are made for Z06 rotors and the Camaro rotors are inset more towards the spindle. I did this to gain approximately 4mm of additional wheel spoke clearance. Dont know how I will fix that issue yet. Also, the rear brackets are made for a Ty. I dont know what the difference is between that and a Sy setup but I will figure it out. .

Fresh out of the box...

Brackets and lines complements of Mike...

Caliper painting kit with high temp Brembo stickers.... They will be red with black Brembo stickers.

And the old front brakes that were hating life...

So I know I will probably get some shit for this but how will I fit the 14" front rotor and 4 piston caliper under a 17" wheel.... Lots of grinding. I started that today and have got some good progress. I really wish I had a rotary table to be able to use the mill but this will have to work for now. Nothing like taking a 7" grinder to a brand new part.....

That is a terrible picture but it was getting really dark. Still waiting on my rotors to come in. Once they are in I will also look into modding Renz's bracket to gain another 1mm or so of clearance by bringing the caliper closer to the rotor. As of right now, I have the caliper bolted the spindle and have been test fitting the wheel as I continue to grind the caliper.

More updates on that tomorrow :)

For your upper control arms what tube did you use that had the proper ID for the bushings to slide into? I remember looking a few years ago and thinking that I would have to buy something a little too small and have it opened up on a lathe...

Matt, it took me a few purchases to get what I needed and I couldn't source it locally.

I ended up using this https://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=15532&step=4
Worked perfect IMO. I also used 1.125" OD tubing for the arms. That was the second set of arms I built. Here are the ones for the Ty...

Thanks for the info and for doing the research. All I need to do is order some of that tubing and a tig welder and I'll be able to make myself a nice set of upper A-Arms.

If you ever need the flat metal pieces cut again let me know.. I'll cut you a set for cheap.. I would just need a poster-board trace of that part or a dxf file if you are so inclined..

I've been researching TIG welders for a couple of months now and I'm having a real hard time deciding what I want/how much I want to spend..

Looking good man....Glad to see another SyTy guy has installed the AeroCatch hood latches before me. I have a set sitting here on my work bench waiting to be installed. Did you have any problems with the install? Any hints/advise you could share?

Thanks
