muffler delete

Re: muffler delete

My new-to-me Ty has no muffler. Can't really make a comparison on performance gains as it's been this way since I got it. But I have to admit it does sound plenty mean. My dad was a little jealous (I think the frame up resto on his 59 Chevy Apache will move a little faster now) said he wanted something that sounded like that. The tone actually gets a little more mellow as you get into the rpms, probably some resonance thing. I like it. Will probably throw a muffler on their sooner or later just to see what it's like.

what kind of mufflers are you guys running? Sounds like a straight thru muffler is the way to go over like a 2 or 3 chamber correct? 3" pipe also? What is the stock pipe size?

I would not use a Flowmaster muffler at all unless you like changing them. They have a habit of breaking the welds at the back of the muffler. My 98 Trans Am has Flowmasters on it and I will be changing them out, they came on the car when I got it. Try the 3" pipe after the cat, If you don't like it than buy a muffler and install it.

Re: muffler delete

i have had the same flowmasters on my syclone for just over 10 years. and they are holding up real good. all my trucks im running a flowmaster and they have never failed me,but i remeber someone on here a while ago. they said not to run a flowmaster on a syclone cause it holds it back

Turbo Noise

Turbo Noise

The biggest modification you can make to "hear the turbo spool up better" is to get a cone filter and put it either:

A.) On the end of the stock intake tube (easy, anyone can do in 5 minutes)
or
B.) Remove the stock intake tube and relocate the stock battery and put the cone filter on the orange elbow right where the battery used to be. (far more involved)

Both will SIGNIFICANTLY increase the amount of "turbo noise".

My opinion is the V6 sounds progressively worse the more open the exhaust is. It's a lot of fun to drive around for a few days with open exhaust but gets old fast when you realize it doesnt have that "music" a V8 has, it's more like a garbage truck. The worst (IMO) is with a cam and headers, it sounds like a mutant import. So blk00z28 you now have a friend who is also looking to make his truck quieter
I have the PTE 3" test pipe and ATR 3" muffler/exhaust on mine and I like it a lot. Very deep and mellow, nice balance of sound and flow performance. At the track I can open the dump but it doesn't give much performance and sounds like a low-flying Cessna airplane.
