I desperatly need motor mounts, and want something better than stock. I did a search but all i found was people complaining about how hard it is. Can I get suggestions of good mounts and where to get them?

Re: motor mounts

I think id rather have the poly mounts, so i dont get so much vibration. Is the solid mounts recomended by most?

Re: motor mounts

If you take the heat shield off with the poly mounts and the stock manifold, they will melt. I used a heat blanket & the stock shields on my poly mounts. I am also wrapping them with header wrap.

Not sure how much vib your worried about. If you have a tie down strap on your motor right now, then you'll see it really doesnt add that much vib's. Our trucks arnt like a n/a stroker motor with a huge cam.. And even so after a few times driving the truck you wont even be able to tell from going to poly's to soild mounts. You'll save alot of trouble in the future with just going solids. Just my

Re: motor mounts

I did solids and noticed virtually no increase in vibration. I bought ERue's from Turbotime because of the slots figuring alignment when installing might be easier. Mike's a great supplier also.

Re: motor mounts

X2 on what Don said. I cant hardly tell a difference in vibration. I say go solids and forget about it. Trust me you never want to do mounts more then once.

Re: motor mounts

When you do the solids. Are you going with the poly mounts or keeping the stock transmission mount?

Re: motor mounts

i have the solids and i noticed vibration difference. its not that bad but yes i can tell if i am in a truck with solids. don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise. renzfab has the mount covers so you don't have to reuse stock crap on your polys if you go that route. hth.

Re: motor mounts

oh yea the install is simple if you have the tools and take your time. if you try to bully your way through and don't use common sense i can see where you may have problems.

I see a lot of people say - "I have solids, and I don't really notice"

You might not, but your truck will.

Think about it... watch an average SyTy motor with stock mounts at idle-
It bobs all over the place.

With solid mounts, where do you think that vibration goes? Into every bolt, mount, and electrical connection in the vehicle.

When I worked in the avionics industry, we had to run all our boxes against a battery of vibe-table tests for reliability certification.

If you've ever seen a circuit card on a vibe table, you'll notice (with the help of a strobe light) that it turns into roughly an "S" shape at a certain amplitude and frequency. Eventually, chips will pop right off the board.

Now, think about that in terms of all the electronics in your truck. And all the bolts, nuts, plastic fasteners.

I've mentioned this before, but I won't put solid mounts on anything that isn't a dedicated race vehicle. Ie, something that you expect to have to take apart and re tighten periodically.

Re: motor mounts

Has anyone tried a hybrid install? Solid on Drivers side, standard on passenger. The solid side would help keep the motor from rotating, and the pass side would have some give to it. Just a thought.

while this is all true, there is dampening in all of the body mounts, so any of the vibrating would only effect the items mounted directly to the frame.

Re: motor mounts

I have solids in mine. I can hook up with you sometime to show you what the solids are like in it as far as vibration. It's definately there.

But I would take the slight vibration over doing another motor mount job any day of the week! That was the worst job I have ever done in 20 years of working on many different types of cars.

Hit me with a PM if you want to see the truck.
