More ECM Power

This has been mentioned a few times before. I just did this mod today trying to resolve a tuning issue in my ty. Although it didn't solve my issue it did raise the voltage at the ECM by 1 volt which surely can't hurt.

Re: More ECM Power

Its nice to have a diagram finally for this mod that a lot of people have done.

What size fuse would be enough for this application?

Re: More ECM Power

Great diagram. I had E-Rue's old post saved but a diagram makes it so much easier. I bet this is a hell of a lot more effective at raising voltage than "upgrading" to a 140 Amp Powermaster..

Re: More ECM Power

Be careful. The diagram shows "87a". You actually want "87".
87a is normally closed. 87 is what you want. Most lower amp relays don't have an 87a anyway.

Re: More ECM Power

This is a great mod... I had issues with my ECM voltage dropping to 12.1 at WOT and I did this mod and now I get a steady 13.8 to the ECM. Definitely has to help and it certainly can't hurt.

Re: More ECM Power

well, i took al my extra electronics out of the engine bay, and installen a 0 or 1 gauge wire from the battery too the alternator, with my new setup, i'm drawing all the power my truck needs directly from the alternator, (except the starter). i get 13.7 volts all day long

Re: More ECM Power

On my list for winter projects, thanks for the diag. There's another diag floating around on how to split the load on the ECM from one inj driver to 2. Prolly do that one as well.

Re: More ECM Power

What's the purpose of this mod? I know it raised the volatage..but why? what problems can this solve?

Sorry, when it come to E+......i duno much:(

Re: More ECM Power

This mod (ECM Power Mod) gives you alternator voltage (higher) at the ECM as opposed to the stock setup which gives you battery voltage. It keeps a more consistant votage right at the ECM. Helps for some and some notice no difference. Most see an increase of 1+ volts at the ECM in datamaster. The way our ECM is wired there is all 6 injectors running off of one injector driver in the ECM. There is another mod to split the load across two injector drivers and therefore cuts the duty in half. >>>CLICK HERE<<< This link describes how to change wiring on the ECM to split the load on the injector drivers C12/C10 (yes it works for a stock truck).

Those that have the Racetronix fuel pump kit it is very similar it takes voltage directly from the alternator and feeds it to the fuel pump using a larger gauge wire and using the existing wiring to trigger the relay.

Thanks go to Jeff Scott for posting it all up.

Thanks for the explanation 1193. What if you have a Walbro?

Treymen,
The Racetronix Wiring for the fuel pump can be used with their pump or the existing one you have in your truck. It just raises the voltage pulling it from the post directly off of the alternator. You don't have to buy their kit if you can wire it up yourself it is just a nice "plug & play" setup they sell. The relay that is in their kits is a Bosch and is water sealed and quality.

I have all these simple mods done to my truck. It may seem like you are really pinching everything with all these little mods but they all add up if you are looking for a quicker truck.

Ya, it's got a Turbo
Re: More ECM Power

Battery voltage SHOULD be alternator voltage. What happens over time is the wiring and connections build up some resistance and that cuts down on the available voltage at the other end (ECM). Using the relay eliminates this resistance. So really, we're not "boosting" the ECM voltage, rather bringing it back up to spec.

I'd be reluctant to use a circuit breaker in place of a fuse. C/B's take longer to trip, and that could mean the end of your ECM if something is pulling too much current. A fuse is safer.

Re: More ECM Power

Give the ecm more power , then configure it to run 12 injectors :)
