Molding Cladding Together

I was wondering has anyone molded their original cladding together ( i.e bumperettes to bumper etc)? If anyone has I'd like to see some pics please & any info.

Someone will post pix, but that silver Ty in Germany (or somewhere) had entirely fused cladding (cladding to cladding and cladding to body....no gaps). I can never remember the name of that damn truck. It has the Range Rover fender vents.

Wow that looks good! I wouldn't do that to a Ty but I like the look a lot!

I did that sort of thing with my '85 El Camino SS... It has front and rear roll pans, side ground effects etc and I had it all molded together and to the body for a seemless body. I love the look!

I like the no fog light look...did anyone else notice the rear arch isn't fused with the rocker?

pretty neat idea to be different

I remember Roland telling me that by law, they are not allowed to have their wheels stick out and be exposed, hence the "widebody" cladding done.

SyTyless......for now!
Re: Molding Cladding Together

IIRC, somebody attempted to do this at one point and found that no matter what, the filler ends up cracking or popping out since the cladding actually moves (be it vibration, expansion/contraction, etc). I like the smooth wraparound look, but the means of achieving it is difficult.

x2 on it being so 90's . I don't think ANY truck should have a completely filled/smoothed tailgate+rollpan .... I mean c'mon it's a TRUCK meaning it's tailgate should come down or swing open!!!

that's what I was thinking about too .... wasn't sure if there was a way to use some kind of flexing filler that would hold up well :?:

I know it makes the vehicle look sharp as shit as long as some things are done in good taste.

I've used fiberglass resin for my patch together projects. It's a pain to work with but gets the job done.

IMHO the Ty looks good with the cladding seamless but on a SGT there isn't enough pieces to work with. If that is what you are thinking.

It is what I was thinking .... sort of .... I see some Sy/Tys with the bumperettes sagging/misaligned so I thought when it comes time I'd mold mine together to the bumper cover & maybe the rear bed corners to the roll pan. Eventually the truck will have a shaved gate but I'll be keeping it functional vs totally useless like the 90's truck.

I know fiberglass resin is pita to use but I think it's worth it (never had a problem with getting it to work & hold for @least 5 years +). I've heard tale of people using a high $ bondo then shredding it to put a coat of fiberglass to reinforce it .... would that be better for strength on the cladding?

I think molding the cladding together would be more work then its worth. Maybe on a customed out trailer queeen show truck like that Syborg molding the cladding together would be a nice custom touch but other then that:tdown:

dont mind the rainbow pinstripes or the donk wheels, but this truck has cladding that is molded to the body on the sides/wheel arches. It actually looks REALLY good.

Thanks for that pic .... it does look REALLY good . That just made my decision to mold the bumperettes to the front bumper cover .... I know it'll be a pain in the ass to remove but that's what we go through for nice looking trucks. IMHO that would make that Ty look even more SeXXXay if the bumper cover was molded too :2cents:

Not minding the stripes or the donk wheels of course ;)

I doubt syborg will be a trailer queen.

Meh, doesn't look good/different enough to bother going through all the work:2cents:
