Modified truck value

Syty Killer :(
Just curious how some mods affect the value of our trucks. For example, I was pulling out my engine today and there was no refrigerant in the A/C lines anyways, so I took it out. If I leave it out and put on the A/C delete and change heater boxes will that hurt the value of my truck a lot or just make it a harder sell if I ever try to get rid of it? It already has 127,000 miles so I dont think it would affect it too much. I also plan on removing the ABS but since a lot of people do I guess it doesnt matter so much. I could see how on a 30K mile truck these things would be a big deal, but on a higher mileage truck does it really make much difference?

Re: Modified truck value

Well, its only worth what people will pay for it. A super-low miles Sy kept in museum condition should fetch around 22-25K, while the Tys are worth more, despite the fact that there are more of them out there. The average for Sy's is 14,500, and Tys are in the mid to low 20's. We got our Sy for $4,500, and the body and interior are in great shape, with 65,000 miles, however the original engine was KIA and replaced with an ordinary 350. Performance mods dont affect value too much, but super high miles and body condition affect the value the most IMO.:2cents:

I agree with that as long as the truck was modded in the same beaten to death way everyone else does. If you start building your own one off mods (headers, intakes, suspension, etc) the resale goes in the crapper since all the mods are basically custom.

Off the shelf/regurgitated mods=resale not too bad.
One off/owner fabbed mods=resale in the crapper (thats why I keep my stock parts ;) ).

No a/c will cut down the number of potential future buyers .

Not so sure about that statement. The one I sold to a specialty dealer recently has a new owner ($29,500) and it was close to museum quality in most ways but not completely. I think a museum quality low mileage properly documented Syclone can fetch over $30,000 if marketed right. For those with factory original Syclones between 0-5,000 miles in perfect condition with no botched history, I see bling-bling in the near future should they decide to sell. These trucks (and immaculate low mileage Ty's / SGT's) are getting rarer by the month. It's just a matter of time before the market soars :).

Re: Modified truck value

In my personal opinion you would be hurting the value by deleting the a/c. As far as ABS, I agree with you that most trucks already have it deleted. I guess it really just depends what you plan to do with the truck in future, Build it, have some fun, sell it? or build it and keep it. That would be the deciding factor. If your going to keep it for years to come, go ahead and build it like you want it.

Re: Modified truck value

I sold my original, mint condition 1993 Cobra on ebay about a year ago (had to run it twice due to a dumbass deadbeat bidder)...even had the original tires and sparkplug wires on it.....About the same time it was on ebay, so were about 7 other 93 cobra's....Mine went for the most money and was the ONLY unmodded car that was up for auction during that week....Also there was a Teal one like mine that had all the usual bolt-on's as well as a vortec blower....That one sold for almost 2k less money and had fewer miles than mine....

Despite the production numbers, I really think their are a lot more under 5K mileage Sy than Ty. I believe the Sy were intially collected and more of the Typhoon were driven. I even notice when looking at the classifieds it seem like a 50K Sy is pretty regular while a 50K mile Ty is low mileage.

Re: Modified truck value

I quickly ran some numbers on autotrader (added only the number on the front page). The average mileage from the Ty was 79K miles (despite being 1 or 2 years newer), The Sy was 53K miles. The Syclone listings didn't even have any super low mileage (0-5000) vehicle FS that I usually see. The lowest mileage was 13K mile Ty.

Re: Modified truck value

I've done a bunch of one off mods on my #733 truck and feel if they're done right and make the owner happy, the truck is more valuable to the owner ;) ....I refused to negotiate a trade offer last night with big potential....too much work has gone/is going into that truck....
