Target had a sale on Mobil 1 yesterday for $2.94 a quart. I cleaned the 10w-30 shelf off. Not sure if it is a chain-wide sale and how long it is going on, but those with a Target near-by might want to check it out.

I managed to buy a case for 5.49 a while back from pep boys, girl rang it up as plain old oil.

I'll have to investigate the local Target.

Serious about performance
I just picked up 6 bottles for $3.58 ($22.xx total) at Target yesterday because I thought that was a hot-shit deal. Normally it's ~$4.50 everywhere. This is in Wisconsin. Boy would it be poor timing if it dropped 1 dollar the next day!!

Yeah but i don't want to risk them stripping my drain plug. Seen way to many locked up engines from cheap quick lube places. I worked as a tech for 4 years in Texas (18 in Sweden) and already replaced 6 different Texas customer engines due to screw up at different quick lube places. Do the math, if one tech in Dallas done so many engines in 4 years, how many do you think it's in the whole country?

funny storry about such a deal with the dealer. They sent out a free oil change thing to my dad (dealer trying to attract more service) So my dad took it up, brought his camero in, figured ahh hell, ill try it. Not the fastest service, and they forgot to uh, tighten the drain plug.. Nearly emptied the contents of the pan by the next morning.

Dealer makes attempt to do good and get service. AND SCREW UP AN OIL CHANGE. yea, im gonna pay for them to tune/fix anything.

Great deal with the new cars, 8 year service from the dealer. I cant image the amount of time you'll waste in 8 years taking your hondai, dodge, or kia into the dealer to get it fixed in a day or two.

Don't disagree with you, we had a young kid working for us that forgot to put oil in 3 (three) trucks/cars witin 1 month before he got fired. My point is at a dealer ship most techs are older and have more experience due to we get paid allot more then a quick lube place. I make $20/HR at the dealership and there is no way in hell a quick lube is going to pay me that kind of money. + most dealer ship have a 12 months or 12,000 mile warranty on performed work. I doubt the quick lube places have that but correct me if i'm wrong.
There is bad techs everywhere, i'm one of the few that take allot of pride in my work and i hate my self if i would f..k something up. I have 1 recheck/ comeback with same problem per year.

I don't know how many of you that knows how a tech get paid at a dealer ship, but i will explain it to you so you can get an oppinion of why dealer ships work the way it is. This is what i have to deal with every day. This story happen to me 2 weeks ago.

You bring your car (under warranty) to the dealer saying oilpressure gauge peggs on high when warm, service writer takes the information, writes a poor discription of the problem, tech get the ticket (RO), looks at it, test drive the vehicle, can't dublicate the problem, oil pressure is normal. Tech talks to SW, SW tells tech i saw it here on the drive it was pegged on high. Tech test drive again, discover "temp" gauge peggs on high when warm (duh). Tech replaces t-stat, fix the problem. Now to what did i get paid:

Tech are paid on commision (not working no pay), replacing a t-stat on a Ford Explorer warranty pays 0.7hr (0.7hr = 42 min), if i can do it faster i make more money, if i do it slower i'm loosing money. But all that time i spent trying to dublicate a problem that cust and service writer sad was wrong with the car i DO NOT get paid for. So all techs are trying to hussle every car/truck the have to make as much money as possible.

I'm not defending dealer ships, i just think there is better quality due to older more experience techs.

haha, back in high school we had a truck in the shop that needed a new engine. sounds ok so far, however the truck was a 1997 GMC Jimmy SLE or whatever it was. still sound ok? well it WAS 1997!!!!
Turns out this truck was brought in to a local shop for its 3rd (9000 mile!!!) oil change ever!
Well, i dont know how it happened, but they drained the oil, i suppose changed the filter and such, lowered the truck (maybe lunch break was around now) and that was that.
The owner came to get his truck later that day, and half way home in his still new 9000 mile Jimmy, the motor seized.....

needless to say, it was an expensive oil change.....for the shop that is, cause they had to pay for a new motor.

its an expensive lesson to learn, but be very careful who you bring your trucks to.

PS- GMC also got bitched too in the F-up. For some reason, the low oil light never came on because the gauge never moved from normal.
