I thought they raised some good points. One that was raised, while not really applicable in this case, but good nonetheless, was how if you take a Grand National and put a N/A big block in it and run 8's, is it still a Grand National? The answer is no, because the Turbo V6 is one of the biggest things that makes a Regal into a Grand National. Take it out and you've turned your GN back into a Regal. The same applies with a SyTy in my opinion. Take out the AWD, which is a significant portion of what makes a Sonoma/Jimmy into a Sy/Ty (respectively), and you're left with some type of inbetween hybrid, I don't even know what you'd call it.. "A SyTy without the AWD", I guess!

PS: For the record I think there are 3 major things that make up a SyTy from a Sonoma/Jimmy. 1.) Turbo/Intercooled engine. 2.) All-Wheel Drive. 3.) Ground effects package.

I agree The 2wd trucks are fast but just are not as cool as the AWD. They lose some of the mystique that they had originaly. To me they are about as much a real SyTy as a winston cup car is a production Monte Carlo.

yup this thread is a big flame over at ls1.com i posted on it but that is a sick ty regardless of the rwd convertion

So is that Ty the fastest Ty in the world, as the poster claims? Seems that GMHTP mag is going to make that claim when they feature the truck.

Sounds like there is a claim to a 9 second Ty to me.

Able to see in the photo that the truck has either a ladder bar 3 link or a 4 link rear (shadows prevent me from an exact answer) but either way, the original rear susp. is not there. Who knows whats up front? Would this guy actually take a real Ty and modify the @#$t out of it and ruin its value (if he welded crossmembers in the rear, your always going to be able to tell, even if removed. Or did he take a 2wd Jimmy and add Ty parts (exterior) to play it off as one. We could make all kinds of assumptions, but until somebody knowledgeable about Ty's actually sees this thing in person, we won't know. If it is an original Ty (by V.I.N.), I would not consider it the world's fastest. As posted earlier, the things that make it a Ty are gone (definitely the AWD) and most likely the motor. I like the posting of the Mustang funny car. Its right on the money. You can take a fiberglass (or other composite material for that matter) body of any type of vehicle, put it on a tube chassis and claim it to be the fastest - I don't think so. Whatever the vehicle is, it should have its original configuration still in it (ie: AWD, turbo V6 ect...)

I don't care if anyone considers it a ty or not. What we should really be talking about is what this guy did to move a brick down the 1/4 mile in under 10 sec. Take off the flame suits and lets have a real discussion about thie truck.

It would seem that way, given what was said in that thread. However, no one from GMHTP is saying that in there or here.

Fast, in any form, is deserving of respect.
To do it in something shaped like a cement
block is even more deserving. Regardless of
how much of it is OEM, that beast represents
the Sy/Ty flag very well.

hafta dissagree with you on that one DIG..

sound performance's supra. 9.54 car. full interior, even the back seat. nice stereo system inside, with amps and subs. still has the factory AC. they drive it any where and every where.

When I first saw this post at LS1.com I was more than a little amused. For starters, I have never spoken to this guy and I sure never promised to feature his truck.

After I posted my response to this, the entire thread was mysteriously deleted. The only truck we have promised for a feature is from McCoy Motorsports in Ohio. When the weather clears, we'll be getting on that.

To repeat, we have made no commitment to feature any 9-second RWD-conversion Typhoon from the Philly area!

Hope this thread won't be deleted now too...

Johnny, we put our mysterious deleting fool out to pasture some time back, so hopefully this thread hangs in there. Just goes to show that stuff posted on the net isn't believable sometimes.

I started this thread because, here we have a machine that is doing some great times, but it is a relative unknown in our little community. This Ty is haulin some tarts, yet I haven't heard much about his combo ect..

As far as commitments go, you couldn't have picked a better truck to do a shoot on, McCoy is well respected around these parts. However, their shop in not in Ohio.
Lee Howie often collaborates with McCoy and has a shop just outside of Columbus.
Anyway, thank you for your interest and hope to meet you in Chicago for this years SyTy nationals...

Now if we can just get a AWD TY in the 10's or the 9's would you run a feature on that?

I would like to start out by saying that I'm a GMHTP subscriber. I was also amused when i read some of the things that were sad on the LS1 site & this forum. Some comments were funny & others were just people voicing there opions. Now to the point.
Tom & I attended the Jamin in July event at Englishtown. The truck ran a respectable 10.26 @ 131 mph in 98 Deg. temp. Most of the people there were very impressed.

Anyway, a photographer from GMHTP magazine took countless pictures of Tom & I with his Typhoon (correction RWD TYPHOON). He also inteviewed Tom & I for a good 20 min. after Tom made his solo run.

No, there was no commitment or written contract for a feature. Just what your photo guy told us. That the pictures would be in GMHTM. We just thought that would be so cool.

Tom & I waited for the next issue nothing. Ok, the following issue came with one little picture. (kind of disappointing)


Anyway this truck is for real. Yes, It's RWD. Yes,it now runs 9.80's and Yes we will be at the nationals in Chicago running in the pro class. "RUNNING WHAT WE BRUNG" AND BELEAVE ME WE WILL BRING ENOUGH!!!!!!


Hopefully this post won't be deleted also.
