energy suspension sells different size bump stops. they have taller and shorter. I think that's better than just cutting them
Anybody got part # for those shorter bump stops. Energy suspension doesn't list any application on their website.

Ditch the 2" drop blocks and get some Belltech 3" drop leafsprings for the rear. The Belltechs will drop a SyTy 2" in the back and keeps the rear wheels nice and centered.

I would not recommend fiberglass leafs if you do a lot of 1/8mi, 1/4mi racing, or do alot of boost launches...they will probably crack quickly if you do. Also, with the fiberglass leafsprings the ride will get very bouncy.

My '92 was lowered with drop blocks and the ride was terrible. Changed to the Belltechs and the ride is 100x better now.
what type of shocks do you have in the one with the drop leafs

Re: Lowered TY rides like sh*t!!!

I just ordered the Beltech leafs from jeg's using my racers discount and picked them for $88 bucks each! I also have a set of bilstein sport shocks on way four all for corners, as well as energy suspension shorter bump stops. Hopefully by the new year my truck will still be sitting perfect and riding 10x better!

do a search on Summit Racing or Jegs. They cary various heights, diameters and colors of bump stops. They sell for around $10 bucks for the pair, well worth it!

So what seems to be the magic combination?

Beltech leafs with KYB shocks and Caltracs?

I just used the very thin stock shimmy wedge with the Beltechs. No other blocks.

Bilstein shocks on both. The truck with the Beltech steel drop leafs rides 10x better than the truck with the Flexiform fiberglass drop leafs.

You shouldn't need the Caltracs with the steel Beltech's.

Why would you not need Cal Tracs, Battle Bars or any decent traction helper with a "stock type" set up..... unless you don't race or mind the wheel spin?

Re: Lowered TY rides like sh*t!!!

Not saying your truck wont be different but I had Bilstein shocks and I thought they sucked ass. I ended up with Reflex shocks because of my impatience to wait for the Monomax's that they didnt have in stock. I ofcourse am also in this world. Everytime I hit a bump it feels like some is rearending me. It is super annoying and cant wait to be able to afford to do soemthing about it.

Re: Lowered TY rides like sh*t!!!

I put all the suspension in on saturday and it's better but still not great... truck rides smoother but still hits bumps hard!!! I have plenty of suspension travel now and it still rides like I don't have any. Might have a lot to do with the low pros on the 18's?? I went with the Bilstein sports because they were the only shocks I found that were intended for a 2" drop. The Monomax said to be used with stock ride height. I had KYB's on the truck (might have even been Monomax's) and I wasn't impressed with them.

Do the beltech leafs settle?? I went from a 2 inch block to a 3" drop leaf and the truck sits about an inch higher than it did with the blocks.... I'm hoping it will settle a little or i'm putting a one inch block to level it off a little.

Re: Lowered TY rides like sh*t!!!

what is the best spring rate for the flex-a-form leafs cause i've got 255 spring rate and its very stiff and a bouncy ride.
and what shock dimensions do have to take for new QA1 shocks or do you have a part#.
I have some billstein shocks in the rear.

QUOTE=James Thomas]I gotta say I don't agree with the fiberglass spring comment above as far as our SyTy' go with Flex-A-Forms any way. Good quaility shocks are must on these trucks and properly installed Flex-A-Forms (correct spring rate) with good bushings are realy great on our trucks. Some have experimented with different / custom rates and had problems. Also as far as the racing goes, again I disagree. Flex-A-Forms with Cal Trac's hook DAMN good and ride fine too. Broken Flex-A-Forms are generaly caused by improper installation, other suspension problems (read bad bushings other parts etc.), or using regular traction / "slapper" bars. I have them on two Ty's and Sy and they are great.

In fact I just cut a 1.54 60ft last week on my bone stock (other than suspension) daily driver Ty and it rides fine lowered front and rear. Other fellas here on board have them and like them as well. Check around before you count them out.

Holy cow! Trim those U-bolts!

What sway bar is that? Do you have problems with contact between the bar and leafs? Just asking because I do. Haven't had the time to figure out a solution yet.

I had problems with the ride on mine, but it turns out mine is stock ride height. I had thought it was lowered a little bit when I bought it, but after measuring, it turns out it's not. Mine rode right ON the stock bump stops. I got some polyurethane ones, part number 9.9150 and they were absolutely DESTROYED in under a year. And I don't thrash my truck. So I ended up going with some stock ones for a 69 Camaro, it turns out they're just perfect. They're shorter than the stock ones. They're short enough that the arms don't ride right on them during normal driving, but they're long enough to prevent damage to the cladding from the tires. They're GM part number 402410. The Energy Suspension equivalent is part number 9.9154, but they make for a harsh jounce when you hit a bump. You might give the rubber ones a chance. They're quite durable and affordable.

Re: Lowered TY rides like sh*t!!!

the solution to all of this is air rides slam air system, with 10 lbs of air in the system with your choice of 1-2-3inch blocks

trimming U bolts, no way!
new_argue.gif

I've got some traction bars from flex-a-form I have to bolt to the longer U bolts.

sway bar from belltech no problem at all, with the 2" lowered springs as can been seen on the pics.

You could prevent hitting the swaybar by drilling some new mounting holes in the chassis which are more rear of forward than normal, depends on your actual state, and will mount the swaybar a bit forward or backwards so you have more vertical space between the leaf and swaybar.
I hope it will help in your case

About your bumbs??
You have stock ride height and then youre already riding on the bumbstops ??????? must be some massive stops.

Re: Lowered TY rides like sh*t!!!

Sorry for the u-bolts comment, I didn't realize you had some bars to put on still. :D

The bump stops that they were riding on in the beginning were the factory ones, they even had the original GM part number on them. I'll bring the Ty in to work tomorrow and put it up on the alignment rack so I can take some pics of the suspension for you. I also thought it kind of strange that it would be so close to the factory stops at stock ride height.

How much clearance do you have between the sway bar and the springs with the truck resting on the ground? From your pic, it looks like I have about the same amount with the axle hanging.
