I purchased 92 Ty #1714 from RiceEater last year and I really have not driven it hardly at all (1,000 miles). It has some issues with driveability and it is not much fun to drive due to tuning problems. Before I bought the truck I read EVERY post written by RiceEater and confronted him about all his issues. No offense, but IMO, if you dont understand tuning or dont have the right equipment, leave it alone!
I work on all my own cars, but I stay FAR AWAY from wiring issues and this truck has hundreds of them. My buddy has a local shop so I let him investigate; here are his findings:
EVERY wire under the dash that was connected to the remote start, Ostrich tuner, boost controller, or intercooler pump was tied into something else and hacked together. Each piece of added wire is about 8 inches long and of every color. For example: the power wire for the remote start went from the remote start box under the driver's footwell to the battery and contained 6, 6! spliced pieces twisted together and electrical taped! All those other items were similar. The harness to the engine computer is so messed up I cannot even describe it. Things were spliced into the radio, the button for the rear hatch release, and the cigarette lighter. ARRGGHH! Idk if RiceEater did all this, or the guy before him, but this is ridiculous.
All these have been ripped out and the original harnesses mended as best as possible. So I am trying to start over. Brad also said the PROM chip and computer had been pulled out and apart many times and were in very bad shape. He suggested getting a new chip (good idea?)
Posted are pictures of the fuel pressure, the injectors, and the MAP sensor. I haven't got the truck back from him to tell if it runs better (or worse, or no different), but I need some ideas for the direction in which to make this truck stock and run correctly at 15 psi.
103,000 miles. Has has a tune up and oil change.
