Lots done...UPDATE!!

In the past several weeks, I've spent more time than I care to admit doing the following in attempt to solve the stumbling problem:

1. Cap/rotor/plugs/wires
2. Complete vaccuum hose replacement
3. Fuel filter changed
4. PVC's changed out

The problem is:

It's almost as if I have to floor the gas before it starts building boost and even then the boost seems low. It does not "get up and go" like it's supposed to.

It idles smooth and when not trying to build boost, runs fine.

Last time I checked fuel pressure, it was okay. It takes me several cranks to get it started, but it runs fine once it turns over. Might have the fuel pump replaced but I'm open to other suggestions. Everything spins fine in the turbo and no smoke.

Very frustrated right now.

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

Could be the Cat! I had that problem with Garth's old White truck. Would only build a few pounds of boost and it would be real slow, I disconnected the Downpipe and drove it and it had full boost and reconnected it wouldn't build boost.

My 2 cents. Either that or your wastegate has an issue vlave stuck, puck rusty and won't close all the way.

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

Do you have any blow-by? Have you done a compression check?

Not equipped to do a compression test. Blow-by like blue smoke on start-up?

Ralph...I'll see if I can do the downpipe thing.

Not to jack yo thread but my sy has this same condition . Do you notice power around the 20-30mph range an up ? Just no uumph down low ?

Could also be timing or the ESC module. Have you run Datamaster? Could it be pulling timing?

I think the factory service manual has a procedure for determining if a cat if plugged.

- Hold the RPM's steady at 1000rpm and read vacuum with an ACCURATE vacuum gauge.
- Increase RPM's to 2500rpm and hold. Take vacuum reading.
- If vacuum reading difference is larger than 3inches, then the cat is probably clogged.

I can't get to my manuals right now... can anyone else confirm this is the correct procedure. IIRC it is in the Syclone-specific manual under the "driveability issues" troubleshooting section.

I've got power like a n/a 4.3 in the low range...once I get into boost, it bogs down, kinda stutters, then a little boost "catches" (<7 pounds) and pulls the truck along...but without any significant acceleration.

Tim, not equipped to do datamaster either. Hopefully, my "shop" will be available this week.

Thanks Rob...I'll let the shop know about this. Don't have a vac tester. (See, this is why I buy great running trucks! LOL. So I won't need this stuff...but we know...you will eventually need ALL of it!!)

Meanwhile, I'm going to miss a show tomorrow I was really looking forward to. :squint:

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

Are you sure all your check valves are installed in the proper direction?

Oh yeah...I was reeeal careful. Took my time. But remember, I was having this problem before I replaced the vaccuum. It's not any worse now. (of course, the kit came pre-assembled with check valves, so I assume they're in right?)

Yeah Ryan, I've been reading through some threads and see we're having some of the same symptoms. I can't say mine stays in boost very long...just kind of needles in then bogs down and dumps out.

BTW, this happened suddenly. One day the truck ran fine, the next it would bog and hesitate with gas (like getting on the highway). Now, boost won't build even on side streets when I try to get into it.

Steve,

What about if you stop and try like a boost launch. sit on converter and see if the boost comes up past vac. on your gauge if you have aftermarket boost gauge.

I have datamaster and diacom but your a bit tofar for me.

Steve,

That last paragraph of yours is exactly what mine is doing now... and it happened suddenly as well. Only difference at the moment is now my iac is acting up throwing a code and giving me crazy high idle in park but I haven't had time to deal with that yet.

Check your boost solenoid. If your getting 7pounds that is about base boost. Happened to me.

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

Thanks for all the help. Some of these tests are beyond my feeble capabilities. I'll take it to the shop.

The more I think about it, the more it feels like bogged backpressure (seat of pants feeling). But I'll need a shop to run all necessary tests. So many options....

Hopefully, it'll be done by Nats. Life of a SyTy Owner. :)

p.s. Brian: it needles to 5-7, but doesn't stay there for more than a second.

p.s.s. If anyone is near Newtown Bucks County today, there's a nice little car show on State Street 10-3...you know, the one I was supposed to show in. :(

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

I think your digging too deep before checking the basics. If you have smoke coming out of your oil fill tube when the truck is running then you have blow-by. So to check it just pull the cover with the truck running.

When my truck had 3 cracked pistons it ran very much like you are describing but it had blow-by and low compression on 3 cylinders...

I hear you. Will check that.

what about just dataloging, if your truck sees knock, it will drawback boost with a stock chip
