Lost to a Lightning

Well I've have my truck for about a month now and I just got her tuned up with new plugs, wires, etc and decided to take her out for a cruise. While I was cruising around I spotted a black SVT Lightning and decided to catch up to it, I caught up to it and finally when traffic cleared all of a sudden he jumps on it and so do a from about a 45-50 roll. I figured crap i'm screwed but I was suprised as I held with him to about 95-100 and then he gradually started pulling on me so i shut her down. Next thing I know we're at a light and im thinking to myself this is great im gonna show him, so as soon as i get to the light I throw her in neutral build up some vaccum and then throw her in drive and start to spool up, just as I start spool the light turns green and the L takes off, I'm like damn it, so I stuff her to the floor but it was too late as the L jumped up to about a half a truck lead until once again 95-100 and then started to pull. At the next light I told him I wanted another run this time shifting manually and boost launching but he signaled he had to go which really sucks as I'm prolly one of the sy/tyers out there to ever loose to a bone stock L from a roll and from a dig but hopefully I run into him again but with better results.

It's just a six

Damm, that's too bad!
Next time tear him up!
I raced one at a track w/slicks exhaust etc & he ran a 13.4 if I remember correct... but I beat him. You will get him next time.

45-50 is kind of a bad roll because are trucks wont down shift into second so your taking off from low rpm's

Flyin Ryan

hated cuz he drives fords
Re: Lost to a Lightning

my buddy has a 01 with headers, catback, dr's and a 4lb pully and I can bearly beat him on the street but at the track he pulls 12.3's and owns me.. but you have to choose your battles more wisely.. don't go from a roll con them into racing from a dig because that's what your truck is made for.

Ive had similar things happen with a couple of lightnings, one of which claimed a 12.5 at the track but could pull past me from a roll high or low. Its hit or miss I guess but racing from a roll sucks its not really racing.

Yeah the next time I see him i'll be sure to make sure I have enough time to boost launch and hopefully I'll take him down, it seems like everytime I see him its in my beater accord and not the Sy but considering my Sy is stock with the exception of an ATR F/A meter and K&N cone at the end of the crossover I was impressed that I kept up for so long, I have a vdo boost gauge from the person that owned it before me but It dosen't work so I'll have to see where the problem lies because I'm curious to how much boost I'm running at WOT, I know we are supposed to run around 14.7 but I just want to make sure thats where its at beings I havent gotten datamaster or tunerpro to scan the truck and the fact that my truck came with a spare map sensor and stock ecm I'm concerned about what chip is currently in the truck and why the guy had a spare sensor and chip in the console.

Yeah I didn't want to run from a roll but due to traffic, and bad light timing I only got one sort of chance to run from a roll, its too bad the light changed before I could spool.

X2! It's all about 0-60 in these things. I like the idea of having to be chased and reeled in. Get him next time.

Props for being a true sportsman about it. Some happy lightning guy is probably pasting your post on the L forum but you'll get'em next time.
If I were you, I would tell everyone he won because he was modded to the bujesus....

Yeah thats what i'm affraid of, I can already see the post title 'stock lightning vs. modded Syclone' beings the fact that I have a vdo boost gauge on the A pillar and an ATR Air fuel meter box (the one with LED lights) attached to the side of my gauge cluster that he probrobly saw.

This happened in Ohio?

Good story but not the result that I or all of us were hoping. Maybe next time!

Yeah I live in swanton about 15 miles west of Toledo, but the run happened in Toledo. There is only two other guys that own sy's that I know of around here. One is an old man that has let it rust around the body cladding around the wheel wells, and the other has a sy with stock wheels dipped in chrome, a pitbull, 20g and other bolt ons. Ive been trying to talk to the latter but I haven't seen him in a while but when I do he is supposed to sell me the turbo and bolt ons for cheap as he is looking to upgrade, as far as ty's are concerned I haven't seen any but have heard there is one in toledo but am not sure.

Well, I guess it happens sometime to the best of them, get that boost launch down and spank the pants off him next time. So far I am 3-0 vs. Lightnings, two dead stop races with the Syclone and one roll race win against one with my SRT-4. ;)

I have only seen one Sy in Newark. I have seen a couple of Ty's in my area (Columbus). Your truck is stock right? A couple of mods and you are back on top!

Yeah my truck is stock with the exception of gauges and also btw I just ran him again from a dig and launched at 5 psi for about a 7 trucklength lead up to 110 hehe.
