Loose Door handles

my outside door handles move side to side about half an inch, does it require a new handle? or is there a mounting plate that gets replaced inside the door? dont see what could really let the handle move side to side, anyone have any experience with this? thanks ...

I replaced the door handle on my daily driven beater S10 a few months ago. Spun a bearing and after I got it towed home, I went to open the door and the door handle busted off. GM POS :evil: ! Anywho, if you have never taken the door panel off and seen what it looks like in there, be prepared to be COMPLETELY underwhelmed. The only thing that holds the door handle on is two STAMPED steel "nuts"... I mean they are chessy like those metal caps that you push on the axles to hold the wheels on a Radio Flyer wagon. There are two "posts" cast on the backside of the door handle that the "nuts" screw onto. They are probably just loose and need tightened. HTH's
