I think big Joe has something similar in his Lightning. He posted about it a while back in the local section of the nloc. I think he got it at walmart if I remember.

Re: looking for a dvd in dash

i've played with it on a test bench but just checking the dvd quality and it looked pretty good, but no gps. oh the general mod for making it play dvd's while rolling is ground out the wire that goes to the park brake, and before any of you try and fry my ass for this, i'm just stating it a point of information and am not condoning or encouraging it.

"i know i have to have some one mod it to work while driving"
usually those head units just rely on a parking brake switch...which is simply a ground switch. If you just ground the wire it'll work while driving.

this is true for the older units. the new units require a module to manipulate a series of foot pedal and parking brake movements as people have become smarter and realized thats all it was. The box is only a few bucks and easy to install.

Most of the cheapy DVD units (Jensen, Boss, Power Acoustic, Farenheit, ect....) need to see ground on the brake wire, BUT you have to put a switch in line cause the unit has to see ON, OFF, CONSTANT ON in order to operate.

The Alpines can use an automated TR-7 module or a combination of a switch and a push button.

The Pioneers are somewhat complicated and the bypass procedure varies with the model.

I'm not faimiliar with the Kenwoods or Eclipses, but they're probably a similar method to the cheapies.

For an in-dash DVD with Nav, my bang for the buck vote goes to Pioneer. There are cheaper options out there, but my experience has always been, "you get what you pay for."
I can't even count how many Jensen and Boss DVD units have come in to our shop to be checked out cause the screen doesn't work or it won't read discs or it has no output or etc etc etc....

Oh and most of the cheapies have like a 1 volt max RCA output.

Kenwood and Eclipse only require a ground. Jensen, Dual, Boss (all made in same factory) require a switching setup that must switch in sequence . on-off-on. But those are very poorly made and I have never seen last too long. I go to Wal mart to do my "general" shopping. You wouldnt go to a Steakhouse if you wanted Seafood.

Mine does all that you ask, but the iphone part. For some reason i have to set up the iphone to play, then hook it to the head. Then after use unplug phone and reset it. (the iphone) Ipod works like a charm. My unit is a year old now. Just a heads up.
