Logo Placement

My typhoon's tailgate was missing, okay it still is missing both logos.

I am sure they are supposed to go in a certain measured location. Can I get someone to measure theirs and post the measurements up.

Let's use the center of the horizontal bar in the "H" in Typhoon. Measured vertically from the bottom lip of the tailgate up and from the left side lip of the tailgate.

On the GMCtruck logo let's use the center of the vertical line in the "C" in GMC, measured vertically from the bottom lip of the tailgate up, and to the the same spot from the right side lip of the tailgate.

I'd like to see measurements from a few vehicles to see how consistent they are. I probably should have searched this but I didn't think about it until I wrote most of the post, so....

Re: Logo Placement

From an older post way back:

I have a placement image (not the one above) that I offer customers for positioning their decals as close to original as I have been able to research. Are my numbers perfect? NO, probably not. I got them the same way you are trying to get yours... Trial and error nmeasuring a number of trucks and taking the average of the the closest ones. Some have been considerably off from the others and I have disreguarded those completely. There definately are TWO different positions for the TY decals on the rear gate. I don't know what signifies the difference, I just know there were two different ones.

I don't have anything for the TY yet but would like to get the information once we all agree on something. PLEASE pass the information of all trucks on to me so I can offer it to customers. It will be greatly appreciated.

I have found that a "LEVEL LINE" can be established for all 3 truck decals and it is 4" from the bottom edge of the door. This has been very consistant +/- .25 inches but of course there were exceptions. For what reason I don't know, possibly replacements?. The horizontal measurement varies because the length of the different decals varies. If there is a universal reference line for this I don't know of it. I believe that it may be the center point of the decal but not sure until I can measure some TY decals. I have found that the horizontal center of the decal on the SY and the SoGT are both fairly consistant at 11" from the edge of the door.

Eexample:

Take the SY decal that measures about 15.5 inches in width. That makes the horizontal center 7.75 inches from either end. Mark a point 11" from the doors edge and place the horizontal center there which would put the edge of the decal 3.25 inches from the doors edge.

This holds true for the Syclones I have measured and the Sonoma GT's that I have measured. Again, there are variances because of the formentioned reason but it's fairly accurate. I'd like to measure some TY's and see if this holds true but unfortunately i will have to wait until NATS '06.

In conclusion, I have been searching for some hard documentation on the actual placement of decals so I would more than appreciate knowing the results of this threads research. As a reminder, if you have an UNUSED ORIGINAL decal for any of these trucks, PLEASE take a picture of it and insert the measurements as accurately as possible. If you have one you will understand what measurements to take.

Other than giving you all the actual measurements I have, that is all I can offer. I'm sure it will bring some light to this unknown territory and we will eventually figure it out. If not then at least we might be able to establish a "norm".
Sorry it was long, hope it helps.

Hope this helps.

Re: Logo Placement

I would like to know as well. Plan on painting the cladding on my Sy and will need the exact factory measurments. Its weird, in my factory Sy service manual the measurements arn't there. In my factory Camaro service manual the EXACT measurements are there for the emblems.

If anyone can get it posted up who has a factory original truck that would be great.

Then we can vault it for future reference.

Re: Logo Placement

Per www.sytyauthority.net under "Tips-exterior"

"Typhoon Decal Logo Placement

Left door: From front edge of cladding to the left edge of the letter T = 5 1/2"
From top edge of cladding to the letters- TYPHOON = 1/2"
Right door: From front edge of cladding to the letter N = 5 1/2" From top edge of cladding to the letters - TYPHOON = 1/2"
Tailgate: From left lower edge of tailgate to the letter T = 1"
From lower edge of tailgate to the bottom edge of the letters- l 3/4"
GMC TRUCK: The K should be 1 3/4" from the right edge of the tailgate
"GMC TRUCK" should be 1 3/4" above the bottom edge of the tailgate."

Hope this helps.

Re: Logo Placement

Okay.

When it comes to placement of decals on the tail gate I became crazy picky. I came up with a way that I thought would work and stuck them on. Right away I new it did not look right. So finally I brought my self to adjust the Typhoon decal. I eye balled it out and dropped it down because before I had the bottom of GMC Truck level with the P, H, O ,O and N. I new the GMC Truck was just a tad higher then the Typhoon one (or so it seems) Thats not what it is. It looks like that because the GMC decal has a bigger space to the bottom of the tail gate because its simply not as thick of the other one thats the illusion.

So I took off the GMC Truck one and found my height to be level with the TOP of Typhoon. The TOP OF GMC is level with the TOP OF TYPHOON.

I moved my GMC Truck down 1/4 inch to get the GMC level with the top of Typhoon. Now it looks awsome! :D

Looks for your self. This is regarding 1993s. The 1992s are all screwed up.

Whose black/black is that? Just a random picture?
I ask because I see the Neil Sandler dealer logo and they're down in Murfreesboro TN, right down the road.

Re: Logo Placement

It almost looks like the centers of the logos on the tailgate are placed at the center of the backup lights, horizontally.

Re: Logo Placement

When I replaced mine, the originals were on there from the factory.
I didn't have to measure or anything, I simply taped them all off and replaced with the white in the same positions, so they're where they always have been from birth, on that particular truck at least. Let me know if you want me to take any measurements or pics.

Were. I am pretty sure all the Sandler group is closed now. I know the one in Murfreesboro closed several years ago and their Ford lot in Alcoa was closed the last time I was at my Knoxville store.

Re: Logo Placement

So, here is what I did. I used the center of the back-up light lense as the starting height measurement point. The height of the logos is centered on that line horizontally. The outer edges of both logos are 1 3/4" from the outer edges of the tailgate.

Re: Logo Placement

Looks good.

Surprises me some of the decal placement on some trucks out there.

Is that a pin stripe on the indention or just a glare?

Re: Logo Placement

Yep it's a pinstripe that goes all the way around. It's in the body crease and the same color as the cladding. I didn't like it is first, but it is growing on me, as are the polished wheels. The only thing I'll be changing on the wheels is the body colored insets. Those will get painted Cast Silver sooner or later. Soon as the tag comes in it's time to enjoy this thing.
