Lo Jack?

Re: Lo Jack?

i had it on both my subarus and never used it. from what i was told by a cop that has the equipment in his car to track stolen cars with lojack is that when you car is reported stolen they dial in the frequency for your car and they track it like they do animals in the wild. beep beep beep getting closer beep beep beep beep. Its not a gps thing and if the car is put into a container or trailer with lots of metal around the car it doesnt work. in the end if they want it bad enough they will take it and you wont see it anymore. i personally will not buy one for my car unless its way more improved

Re: Lo Jack?

I have one in my Ty as well. It was installed back in 2001 and luckily I have not had to use it. I'm not sure even if it would work. I know it has a battery inside that powers it even if the main battery is disconnected. Since my battery has been disconnected from the Ty more than half the time, I'm not sure that it would even work now.

Re: Lo Jack?

I have it on my Ty, helped me get in back in 2002 when it was stolen. If I were to do it again, I would only opt for the LoJack and no bother with their alarm system because its a joke.

Random thought. Is it possible to install an OnStar system in our trucks? They can track and remotely shut down the vehicle right?

I looked into it once and what I found was if it isnt available OE, it cant be done.

I found some alarms that have a gps unit, it allows real time tracking, and it has its own cell number. If some one were to take it you can listen in or talk to them, as well as track them via google maps. If it loses sat signal it reports the last known location. So if the drove into a garage you could see the general area it was in. The also have the ability to remotely shut down whatever you want, ie fuel pump, or what have you, using the built in cell phone.

EDIT: Here is one on egay, not sure of quality as I have not used it, but it gives you an idea of the features available. The unit sends your phone the lat, lon, speed and heading via sms, then you can track it with any device that allows lat lon inputs.

Re: Lo Jack?

I have GPS tracking units in all of my cars. They acquire their position via GPS and then send the information to a server of mine via SMS. The server uses that info and generates a Google Map with the exact location of my car. It's great, and very cheap. The units cost around 100 bucks each and use prepaid SIM cards.

I have the following models: Xexun TK-102 (three of them), and one I-95L (newer model).

The I-95L comes with a 45-day LI battery and weatherproof magnetic case.

I get these items from a supplier in China...

Have you got links/pics/ more info?

Sounds interesting!

Re: Lo Jack?

The TK-102s have been around for a few years now, and I see them all over eBay. I'd pick one of them up, since they've got the bugs worked out on that unit.

Here's a forum I used for a long time for support and general technical info. It might be a bit more in-depth than you need, but it's about the only resource I could find. I have used T-Mobile prepaid SIM cards primarily (10 cents per SMS). AT&T offers an awesome deal for 1 cent per kb data, but I haven't been able to get it working yet (tracking would be virtually free at that point).

Here's a guy in Russia that's providing a similar service for trackers that I plan on providing eventually (if my programming guy would stop slacking). You can register your tracker with the site and map it. Don't know if it works for US-based trackers though...

Re: Lo Jack?

I'm surprised that TNphoon hasn't jumped in on this one yet.... I used to build police cars for a living and you don't want the Lo-Jack man... it works through triangulation and it involves the cops... When recovering a thing like a Typhoon it should be up to the owner how it's handled and what happens to who has it  check out the company I work for

http://www.passtimeusa.com

Starter interrupt device, wires into the ignition system and disables the ability to crank the car... Wire it in like I do with a back up battery inline on the constant and bada bing... It's got a cell phone radio in it with a GPS locator that's accurate down to 5ft...

e-mail me at mream@passtimeusa.com if you have any questions.
