light vibration

is it possible to pick up a light vibration if the trans crossmember has been hit?? my sy is lowered and i am having a tough time finding out whats wrong. any suggestions.

if it has been hit hard enough yes. you can move the location of the driveline angles and it will cause a vibration. although I think you would really have to hit it pretty hard to do it.

yes it took one real good shot on a gas station tank fill cap. i guess i will replace the crossmember.... thanks

I have bent one before. Doesn't take a really hard hit just catch it in the right spot.

They aren't that expensive from GM

lol, been there done that. mine hit hard enough to bend the crossmember and shear the head off of one of the passenger side mounting bolts. then some monkey had loctite'd the x-member to trans mount bolts in so they wouldn't come out and snapped off. that's what's led to taking it off the road in complete disgust and becoming a garage queen.

new x-member is pretty cheap direct from gm and provided you don't run into the issues i did, should be easy to swap. i think myclone posted about some gm trucks having a tubular x-member that may shed some pounds, do a search and it should come up.

my 88 blazer has the tubular crossmember but I thought I remember somebody sayin that it wouldnt fit. not sure why but I think it should.
