leaky rear pinion seal

Hi,

My rear differential is leaking at the rear pinion seal here:

1. Do I need any special tools to replace it? The manual mentions:

J 8614-01 Companion Flange Holder
J 23911 Pinion Oil Seal Installer

2. Do I need any other parts other than the following?

26026792 Seal
1050169 Special seal lubricant

I have a differential cover with a drain plug, so I don't need the gasket for the cover.

3. Any other tips on replacing this?

It drips if it just sits, but I can wiggle the drive shaft to make it drip less or drip more. If I pull the drive shaft towards the front, a steady stream will flow. Could this be anything else other than the pinion oil seal?

Thanks,
Alex

Sounds like your pinion bearings are done.

Any unusual noises from the diff? Get it looked at by a mechanic before the bearings pile up totally and you end up buying a housing too.

Sorry for the bad news

yeah if you can move it around something isnt right. I would be looking for a set of gears and bearings.

apun, your rear is toast. the lease you will need are all new bearings and seal. say a prayer that your gears are still good. ( but i doubt it )
