late model S10 radiator?

Did some searching on radiators since I have found you can't get a bigger core for our stocker, at least that I have seen. I came across a few posts where people mentioned a 99 S10 radiator. Is this is a direct fit? What are the gains?

I have a 2000 S10 radiator sitting outside right now, both 2.2L and 4.3L versions for automatics and I was almost convinced the 4.3L radiator was a 4 cylinder model it looks so damn tiny.

Summit sells a v8 conversion radiator that is a direct fit and larger than stock.

Re: late model S10 radiator?

the thicker radiator came on more heavy duty 4.3 trucks. blazer 4x4's, x cab 4x4's and so on. mine came from a 2001 blazer 4x4

Re: late model S10 radiator?

I did a late model s10 radiator to eliminate the heater core port on the one end tank. It is close to a direct swap. I had to cut the two plastic pegs off the bottom of the core since the later model trucks use a pin style mount instead of a saddle like our stock ones. This is purely cosmetic. The core itself is no bigger than stock on the outside but inside you can see that the tubes are wider than the stock was. There is a picture of this on jags that run somewhere

The core size of the stock radiator for a 4 cyl Camaro is the same size as the 4.3 radiator for a Blazer / Jimmy [our trucks]. The Blazer Jimmy is rated to tow 5,000 lbs. Not sure about the 4 cyl Camaro's tow-rating, but it can't be much. The cooling in my Blazer with 3,000 lbs of boat in tow in Calif desert July heat is more than adequate.

So why is so MUCH radiator required in a 4-cyl Camaro? Compared to a vehicle that obviously needs much higher Delta-T? The Camaro has electric radiator fans. The Blazer/Jimmy has an engine driven radiator fan.

BIG difference in Delta-T between the two fan types, for the same size core. Most electric fans move much less air than the engine-drive. Something to think about.

There are also two thickness cores for our trucks. The Sy and Ty have RPO V01 "heavy duty cooling" This includes the bigger radiator, and the trans cooler has an extra plate. V01 may also 'trigger' KC4 engine oil cooler. (Or KC4 is part of 4X4 4.3. I'm not sure).

The difference in price for the two radiators is about $15.00. But you should already have one that's more than adequate with engine drive fan.

Looks like he hacked the filler neck from one side and moved it to ther other. He builds rads? Why didn't he just start with a proper tank to begin with. Kinda looks second rate.

What about the v8 one they offer? http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Parts_S10-V8-Radiator.html Looks like similar design as HD v6. Anyone running either?

Yeah that is a corvette radiator. It does need special mounts that JTR makes to make it fit and you also need to cut out the bottom lip of the the core support because the radiator sits in at an angle so it doesn't rub and puncture the plastic endtanks on the radiator.
